Summary

My Geotechnical and Construction Engineering experience spans over 30+ years.

I have led the State of Georgia's Geotechnical Engineering office for over 18 years; holding various leadership positions to include Environmental Engineering Branch Supervisor, Geotechnical Engineering Branch Chief, and recently retiring from the position of Geotechnical Engineering Bureau Chief.

As the Geotechnical Engineering Bureau Chief I lead an office charged with creating standards of practice for the surrounding Geotechnical industry and local governments throughout the State of Georgia. We developed guidelines and procedures which streamed lined the current Load Resistance Factored Design (LRFD) process in the State of Georgia.

My Bureau serviced various offices through out the Department such as the Bridge Office, Roadway Design Office, Construction office and the office of Maintenance.

I provided Senior Level Geotechnical Engineering Reviews and was the final Engineer of record sign to off on all technical reports for the branches listed below in my professional experience.

Geotechnical Engineer Bureau Chief

  • Provided Senior Level Geotechnical Engineering Reviews and Final Engineer of record sign off for all Bureau report.

  • Develop Wall Foundation Investigations (WFI) utilizing Allowable Stress Design (ASD) and Load Resistance Factored Design (LRFD) design methodologies.
  • Develop Soil Survey Investigations (SS) for proposed alignments provided by the office of Roadway design.
  • Reviews Geotechnical engineering report submitted to the GADOT for all up-coming bridge and roadway construction projects.
  • Conducted technical conference calls with geo-technical consultants to explain current and pass GADOT geotechnical practices.
  • Responsible for developing all office engineers with technically sound engineering judgement to accomplish competent geotechnical engineering report and reviews of consultant submitted reports.
  • Conducts technical conference calls with industry consultant firms to accomplish equitable outcomes for both parties involved
  • Provides geotechnical engineering guidance to the GADOT construction offices and general contractor.
  • Reviews and approves pile driving analysis (PDA)report for all active bridge construction projects.
  • Reviews and approves contractor submitted pile driving objectives ( PDO).
  • Conducts preconstruction crack surveys on projects within 75ft of construction activities.
  • Review and approve proposed vibration studies for applicable construction projects.
  • Evaluate construction geotechnical issues and provide sound engineering recommendations.

Environmental Engineering Branch

  • Reviews and approves Phase 1 sites assessment.
  • Reviews and approves Phase 2 site assessments.
  • Manages laboratory testing for BETEX chemicals found during phase 2 field exploration
