Summary

The seeds of my desire to pursue a career centered around assisting others began at an early age and progressed as I furthered my education at Texas A&M University. During my time in College Station, I was given the opportunity to learn, work, and assist children with developmental and neurological deficits. The knowledge, meaningful experiences, and working alongside many occupational therapists, confirmed my passion for helping others regain independence through participation and engagement of meaningful activities. I was guided to the Occupational Therapy Doctoral program at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. I currently serve as the secretary for the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) and actively volunteer in the community through football and baseball clean ups at Texas Tech University, Silver Star Nursing facility, and Children Home of Lubbock. My role as an occupational therapy student is to socialize with the residents to understand what is meaningful to them, advocate for occupational therapist roles, and assist clients in completing desired tasks. Occupational therapists empower and advocate for clients. Clients are not only regaining independence, but regaining control of their lives. Occupational therapy takes an individualized approach, which is a characteristic that has attracted me to this profession. Providing support and encouragement while watching a client overcome a physical or cognitive deficit is a feeling no words can explain. I am eager to continue to develop my clinical skills, knowledge, collaboration skills, and work towards Occupational Therapy license to provide meaningful impacts.
