As a student at Iowa State University I have taken full advantage if the university as a research University. I have participated in the first year Honors Mentor program and attended the Iowa State French Camp. During these 2 experiences I have developed both communication and field skills that will aid me in my future endeavors.
I work along side Dr. Timothy Stewart, attending his lectures on intro level biology while also being a resource for students who need help in this class to ask questions. Three times a week I will create out of lecture help sessions with specific goals and lesson plans to allow a safe space for students to come and ask questions on things they may be confused on.
The job would involve long and unusual work hours in varying weather conditions. Often times having to carry heavy objects and interact with a variety of patrons.
As part of Iowa State University's French Camp preformed trail maintenance in the Lolo National forest which is a proposed wilderness area. It involved digging of gullies for water draining, creating new tread, cutting back woody shrubs, and hand sawing fallen trees.
The Iowa State French Research Camp was a combination of in class lectures and out of class field experience. This field experience include things such as writing research papers, analyzation of statistical data, animal serves, vegetation serves, labor intense hikes to reach research locations.
Each week I would be sent videos of piglets that pre and post castration. I would then watch these videos and analyze the behaviors exhibited by the piglets. The ultimate goal was to see if the enrichment introduced would improve the piglets moods post castration.
