Grayce Cunningham

I was a Field Technician on the UTM Stream Team. The team typically consists of Dr. Tom Blanchard and three students, and is a project funded by the West Tennessee River Basin Authority. The mission of the team is to survey multiple streams under restoration or observation by the WTRBA every summer over the course of several years.

While a member of this team for three summers, I gained the following skills.

• Backpack electroshocking and dipnetting
• Setting up seine blocks
• Taking length/width/depth measurements withing a sample reach
• Using a YSI to measure water chemistry (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity)
• Habitat assessment
• Fish identification (common names)
• Keeping field notes
• Data entry into Excel
