Protein Aggregation Independent Research
Utilized yeast cells to demonstrate the effect of chaperones on cells undergoing protein aggregation resulting in disease states such as Huntington's and Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseases. Tested chaperones to determine if they would stop the misfolding of proteins, increase misfolding, or not have any effect. Selected yeast cells because of their biological similarities to human cells. Concluded chaperones were able to intervene to halt protein misfolding, preventing the formation of protein aggregates.
