What I see as Health Coach who used to work as Medical Assistant. Patients who have never been hospitalized or been frequently to the medical doctor as often, who have never experienced any health issues comparable to what they are going through now, are likely feeling a loss of control. Outside of the hospital, they are parents, husbands or wives, teachers, lawyers and in these areas of their lives they have some control. When a person gets sick, it is scary. They may not know what is wrong or how to go about dealing with it. Finding themselves at the mercy of a Health coach like me and doctors Nurses or a Medical Assistant who are able to help those patients who is frustrating. Helping these patients feel in control by making sure they have all the pertinent information about their current Health. Giving them knowledge can help them make decisions about how to proceed with the Health Coach guidance. Allowing patients to be involved in their own care and empowers them. They'll be less likely to pick on Receptionist nurses and doctors. If the patient doesn't feel helpless, they'll be helpful. I am also treating them with dignity. As a Health Coach. Used to be a Medical Assistant for many years, I am likely have a very full and busy schedule with lots of patients to see and at time to do paperwork and to fill out. My occupation has perhaps become routine, as it does for most people in most professions. I used to work as a Medical Assistant for so long that I've seen it and heard it all. While I am working with them is to support them by Calm Their Fear, explained things to them as it should be. As I mentioned above, many patients are frightened when they face an illness or treatment they know nothing about. This fear can translate into anger as patients try to make sense of what is going to happen to them. That why I am happy and love working with them when I am able to make them smile again in their hard time of difficulty and making a difference toward their health matters.
