Started working at Publix at 16 and began as a bagger, performing tasks like getting carts, lifting boxes, greeting customers, offering premier service (helping outside, packing things correctly and based on customers needs and demands), cleaning the store, etc., always keeping a smile and greeting customers left and right. As time went on, I became a cashier, which demanded a little more out of me: counting cash, knowing the promotions and prices, where the items are located, but most importantly, how to treat customers with outmost respect while ensuring the company policies and rules are respected. Examples of this include explaining to customers the promotion they saw was wrong, the price if the items were correct, and using certain payment methods on certain things like gift cards, the coupon policies, and many more. All of this done while keeping courtesy, respect, careful listening, and understanding the customer while also making sure the store doesn’t lose money and all the transactions are safe and fraud-free. Then I got promoted to customer service staff/supervisor. This was a combination of the last 2 but with more responsibilities: handling more cash, dealing with rude customers, making sure new employees are on the right track and minors are following their work hours to prevent legal problems, answering the phone and assisting many customers at once, like one sending money, while the western Union loads reduce the lottery line, and if the phone rings, answer it before the 4th ring to help the customer and redirect them to the department they need. I have learned and developed many skills, but most importantly: multitasking, social relationships, teamwork, and a work-focused mindset.
