I shadowed Theresa Cohoon, who is a Pathologist Assistant for Christie Clinic in Champaign, Illinois. She independently performs accessioning, dissection, evisceration, description autopsy, and histologic sampling, while providing oral descriptions via recording. She also maintains organization and labeling of specimens, storage and disposal of specimens, and digital files.
Collaborative Biology Lab Research
(Assisted in research with Dr. Santollo’s laboratory in the Biology department of the University of Kentucky. The research involved understanding how gonadal hormones, specifically, estrogens, contribute to sex differences in fluid and energy homeostasis. Research was done on laboratory rats. Responsibilities included attending meetings, strategizing with other research assistants, cleaning, setting up, and assisting the laboratory supervisor in research by working with rats, feeding the rats, weighing the rats, and recording research.)
Personal Biology Research
(Conducted a personal research study, wrote a research paper, and gave a public poster presentation to the entire University of Kentucky Biology faculty and students in the Fall of 2019 at Don & Cathy Jacobs Science Building.
