I am a passionate early childhood educator. I enjoy spending time with children and getting to know their unique personalities and interests. I love planning fun and engaging activities, and I don't mind getting messy. I am very patient and well-regulated, so I don't easily get frustrated or overwhelmed. I am very familiar with Montessori and Waldorf teaching methods, and often apply them to my teaching. I see every moment as an opportunity to learn, not just for the children, but for me, too. I have lots of compassion and understanding for children with special support needs, as I myself have ADHD and ASD. I believe clear and effective communication is the basis of understanding all people, especially children with higher support needs. I am well-versed in ASL and baby sign, so I can engage in non-verbal communication if needed. My passion in life is working with children, and I hope to find a role where I can make a difference in a child's life.
I completed an internship at the Auraria Early Learning Center, in which I worked one full day a week in the 1-2 year old classroom. I excelled at soothing children, and supporting the needs of toddlers with suspected special needs.
After completing an internship at the Palmer Elementary YMCA Afterschool Care program, I was hired to remain on staff full time until the end of the school year. Then, I continued my work at the YMCA as a camp counselor for their Summer Camp programs. During my time as an afterschool care provider, I developed a relationship with a young boy with Autism and ADHD, and worked with his para-educator and social worker to develop a behavior management plan. I still babysit for his family from time to time.
