Provides significant support to nursing staff and clinicians while promoting patient comfort and safety.

• Roles and responsibilities included obtaining intravenous or interosseous access, performing phlebotomy, administering medication during advanced cardiac life support, initiating intravenous fluid infusions, participating in the early recognition of suspected sepsis, monitoring patients on telemetry or those who are hemodynamically unstable for deterioration, responding to all in-hospital cardiac arrests and strokes, and actively improving workflow for nursing and support staff.
• Worked within the paramedic scope of practice in the emergency department of a community hospital.

With the remote oversight of physicians and other advanced practice clinicians, we provided direct patient care to medically complex, underserved, and marginalized populations while in their homes, with the main goal of preventing unnecessary visits to the emergency room and admissions.

• While using critical thinking skills and a detailed assessment of patient needs and available resources, worked with clinicians to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
• Subsequently performed interventions to promote the best possible outcome for every patient encounter.
• Examples of such interventions include phlebotomy with point-of-care labs, urinalysis, insertion of urinary catheters/straight catheterization, obtaining 12-lead ECGs, basic wound care, and administration of oral or IV medications.
• Some non-clinical interventions include medication reconciliation, identifying social or mental health needs, and providing patient education.
• While prevention of the utilization of emergency services was the goal of the role, also was able to recognize when a higher level of care was appropriate, and while providing stabilization to the patient, facilitated transfer to the hospital.

Responsibilities included ensuring the safety of all involved with each call for service, scene management, and identification and treatment of patients with life threatening emergencies.

• In 2017, began acting as a Field Training Officer for new employees and paramedic interns.
• Frequently worked on interfacility transfer ambulances and transported high-acuity patients who required a higher level of care than local hospitals could provide. These patients frequently required mechanical ventilation and/or were receiving multiple IV infusions during transport.
• Consistently sought continuing education to promote professional growth to serve the community with excellent care.
