- Collaborate and communicate with theGU/GYN/General surgical team, anesthesia, and other nursing and surgical technician staff to ensure safe and effective patient care in the perioperative setting.
- Evaluate accuracy and completion of surgical and anesthesia consents, pre-op clearances, attending attestations, and any pre-op labs or tests ordered prior to patient's entry into the OR with emphasis on patient safety.
- Thoroughly assess patient skin condition, patient positioning, and surgical site markings with the surgical and anesthesia teams to prevent surgical complications.
- Monitor changes in the operating room (e.g. patient condition, surgical team needs, procedure progression) and respond promptly.
- Ensure that sterility is being maintained. Work with the scrub team to ensure counting policies are being followed. Responsible for the return of all instruments, soft goods, sharps and needles from the sterile field to the back table prior to closing.
- Accurately document on the procedure including all incisions and dressings, drains, implants, intentionally retained foreign objects, and specimens collected throughout the case for comprehensive patient diagnosis and care.
