Summary

I am very interested in applying to be your next Associate Director of Financial Aid.

My roles during my 17 years of experience in Financial Aid include:

Manager of the Student Loan Center at Bank of Hawaii - I led and supervised a team of 13 employees. I was responsible for the marketing of our brand and increased our market share to almost 50% from 25% in a very competitive marketplace. This success was due to my streamlining the student loan processing turnaround times to be the fastest of ANY lender. Continuous tracking of the loan application process allowed us to know the status of an application at given time and clear any processing bottlenecks; close collaboration and communications with all partners involved – students and parent, the loan guarantor, the loan servicer, and our schools. I also gave above and beyond customer service by conducting entrance and exit interviews and personal delivery of checks/disbursement rosters to the schools.

Scholarship Consultant – I worked closely and collaborated with Scholarship Foundations and their donors, Financial Aid Directors, and Financial Aid Staff to install a scholarship management system to automate the scholarship application and awarding process. Once installed, I then conducted training for financial leaders using the “Train the Trainer” style to train the financial aid counselors responsible for administering internal and external scholarships.

Financial Aid Counselor – I was involved in all phases of the financial aid process - Assisting with the completion and submission of the FAFSA; reviewing, verifying, and submitting corrections of SAIs as needed; packaging students with need as well as non-need based financial aid; conducting entrance and exit interviews; and assisting students and/or parents with government and private loan application.

Financial Aid Directors – I was the Financial Aid Director for the University of Hawaii’s Medical and Law schools. I worked in close collaboration with all of the partners in the student loan process in order to ensure that students were packaged and their aid disbursed in a very timely manner, which was very instrumental in students’ decisions on their school selections, which in turn impacted Admissions and Enrollment in a very competitive arena.

Financial Aid Consultant – I served in the capacity of a Financial Aid Director for a private acupuncture school. I was the sole practitioner of financial aid and did everything that I did in my previous employments. Additionally, I also drew down funds from the US DE. I was also responsible for being the contact with the USDE and Guarantee Agencies on school audits, and responding to them accordingly.

In addition to my knowledge and extensive experience in all phases of the administration of Financial Aid, I also bring with me excellent leadership, management, customer service and project management skills. I am also able to work and collaborate with all vested parties with great ease.

I am a well-rounded individual seeking employment with an organization that would be able to utilize my vast range of skill sets and experiences that I have acquired over the years. My skill sets and experiences include excellent leadership, management, administrative, communication (both written and verbal), sales, and marketing. My Soft Skills enable me to be able to communicating/working with people at every level of an organization.

I strongly feel that I can bring an interesting and fresh perspective to your organization. I am a very hard worker, very results driven, self-motivated, and take great pride in all that I do. I learn very quickly and am an excellent team player. I always treat my place of employment as if it were my very own business, and am always looking out for the good of the organization. I strongly believe that excellent customer service and clear communications are the foundations of every business. Providing these to internal customers such as my peers, as well as to external customers will ensure a positive experience for all parties involved.
