I was able to care for patients in the ICU/CVICU by:

• Conducting and documenting assessments
• Administering medications
• Performing life-saving measurements with BLS/ACLS, and maintaining up-to-date licensure for those activities.
• Reviewing and interpreting laboratory results
• Managing a ventilator, obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gas values, and working along side licensed respiratory therapists
• Administering blood and blood products
• Managing drainage devices
• Coordinating care with other members of the healthcare team in order to achieve optimal care for the patients.
• Administered nursing care to cardiac patients undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic or emergency services.
• In the cardiovascular ICU, following cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, I was responsible for monitoring hemodynamics and administering related medications, monitoring and treating various lab results, managing cardiac IV drip medications, and coordinating care with the Cardiovascular surgeon as well as anesthesia in order to carry out all post-op orders necessary for the recovery of the patient.
• Cared for the post-operative cardiac catheterization patient by monitoring access sites, pain, pulses, EKGs and vital signs.
• Maintained the care and removal of arterial lines, central venous catheter's, arterial/venous sheaths, chest tubes, urinary catheters, and swan-ganz catheters.
• Administered a broad range of medications as well as moderate sedation and managed IV drip medications.
• Administered medication, pain management and analysis of patient responses to interventions to improve individual performance.
• Changed dressings, cleaned wounds and monitored vital signs of up to 3 patients concurrently with focus on quality care.
• Maintained detailed records of patient conditions, reactions and progress in alignment with physician orders.
• Notified the physician and maintained in communication with the healthcare team as the patients status changed.
