Thermal Engineer, Government and Commercial Programs (G&CP)

  • Worked thermal analyses for prelaunch, ascent, and on-orbit environments for the Vulcan and Atlas launch vehicles. Ensured mission success by combining spacecraft and launch vehicle thermal models and assessing thermal constraints
  • Cleared future launches after major data observations and anomalies of flight critical components, as well as assessed as-built flight configurations through model correlation, analyzing test data, and defining new operational limits
  • Served as thermal analysis focal for the main engines on multiple Launch Vehicle’s Second Stages. Coordinated with propulsion team on updating modeling, certifying updates and verifying viability of flight configurations
  • Served as software focal for the G&CP thermal analysis team. Cooperated with software expert to create and update analysis tools, as well as identified and rectified discrepancies in heritage analysis tools
  • Supported multiple design efforts from proposal through design by coordinating with a multi-technology team to perform initial trade studies, iterate design changes, and design thermal protection schemes including spacers, multi-layer insulation, optical property adjustments by tape and pain, as well as ground and flight heaters
  • Reduced analyst post-processing time by up to 12 hours per analysis by developing and performing continuous updates to a MATLAB based post-processing tool for thermal model data
  • Reduced recurring analysis runtime by 80% by developing and refining a MATLAB based analysis automation tool
