Hayden Worrell

Serving as a squad leader for the Galveston Corps of Cadets was an invaluable leadership experience. I was responsible for guiding and mentoring fellow cadets, coordinating daily routines, and ensuring discipline, teamwork, and cohesion within the squad. The role taught me how to communicate effectively, make quick decisions under pressure, and foster a sense of unity, and accountability among my peers. Leading by example, I developed skills in leadership, organization, and resilience that continue to influence my approach to challenges.

Volunteering at Daily Bread Food Bank was a rewarding experience that allowed me to make a tangible difference in my community. I helped sort and pack food donations, assist clients, and ensure that resources were distributed efficiently to those in need. Working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, I gained a deeper understanding of food insecurity and the importance of compassion, teamwork, and organization in supporting vulnerable populations. The experience not only strengthened my sense of community, but also inspired me to continue giving back in meaningful ways.

Working on a ship as a student cadet for the summer was an eye-opening experience that combined learning with real-world adventure. Each day brought new challenges, from navigating the deck and assisting with maintenance tasks to understanding the intricacies of ship operations and safety protocols. Living on board fostered a strong sense of teamwork and discipline, as every crew member relied on one another to keep the vessel running smoothly. Beyond the technical skills, the experience offered a unique perspective on life at sea, instilling independence, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the maritime profession.
