  • Dr. Gross’ Research consists of gene therapy for the GM1 gangliosidosis and GM2 disease that is present in felines. The process begins with tissue collection during necropsy, where all smooth, cardiac, and skeletal tissue were collected. Analyzing DNA Isolations on multiple feline brains to compare the underlying effects of the GM1 and GM2 disease was executed. Gained experience in molecular biology through the means of PCR amplification and gel electrophoresis.
  • Scott-Ritchey Research Center

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHER

Dr. Petrov’s Lab
01.2025 - Current
  • Dr. Petrov’s Research is an overarching look into ribosomes during translation. Conducted wet lab experiments focused on ribosome tagging, including PCR, plasmid purification, and yeast electrophoresis. Preformed cell culture experiments by maintaining and treating various E. coli and yeast cultures during and after the process of cell transformation. Purified eukaryotic initiation factor 5 through multiple rounds of competent cell metamorphosis.

AUTOCLAVE/HISTOPATHOLOGY INTERN

Scott-Ritchey Research Center
01.2023 - 01.2025
  • A work-study position that consolidates all used glass instruments that are necessary in research studies and operates heavy biological machinery to dispose of any biohazardous waste. While managing the autoclave, the position also covers the histopathology lab which includes initiates, sanitize, and reserve all necropsy tools, extracts and freezes all OTC (Optical Temperature Collections) tissues, collection of live tissues during examination, embed animal research matter, and staining microscope slides. Lab safety certifications are required.
