• At the time, emergency medicine was not an established specialty in Egypt; thus, the training encompassed both ICU and acute emergency care.

• Managed ICU patients in an 18-bed unit, where three residents per class divided patient responsibilities. I was responsible for six patients under supervision.

• Participated in direct management of acutely ill patients in the emergency department, where lower-acuity cases were handled by internal medicine and surgery residents, while critical care residents managed high-acuity patients in the resuscitation bay.

• Worked 36-hour shifts, three times per week, followed by 12 hours off.

• Conducted daily morning rounds, placed orders, followed up on treatment plans, and directly managed patient care.

• Gained hands-on experience in managing cardiac arrest cases, performing intubations, placing central lines (using blind technique without ultrasound), and inserting chest tubes under attending supervision.

• Received training in mechanical ventilation settings and the administration of critical care medications.

• Participated in weekly grand rounds and didactic sessions.

• Trained in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) principles and applied the latest critical care and emergency medicine guidelines in patient management.

• Due to personal reasons necessitating relocation to Italy, was unable to complete the residency program.
