Work History
Geotechnical Engineer I – Tailings & Water Group
Freeport – McMoRan
Green Valley, AZ
02.2022 - Current
Implemented a new technology "Helix Neptune Amphibious robot" to perform bathymetry surveys in tailings dam to decrease the operators risk-exposure and enhancing the quality of the data collected.
Monitored groundwater levels during construction activities using piezometers installed at strategic locations within the site boundaries. The piezometers readings and analysis guarantee a safe operation for the pregnant leach solution dam on site, monitoring the risk and probability of overflowing to the Green Valley community, based on the operational conditions and Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) studies.
Provided direction and management to the site water management efforts, guarantying the proper fresh water use stipulated by Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and optimizing the reclaim water use in the site water system.
Inspected construction sites to ensure that activities are being carried out according to approved plans and specifications.
Finalized a data science course in Datacamp to manage and analyze data to improve the site´s water management system, gaining skills in SQL, PowerBI and Python.
Research Assistant
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
Socorro, NM
01.2020 - 05.2022
Set up, calibrated and maintained laboratory and field research equipment for requirements of study.
Conducted primary and secondary research to identify relevant information for project development.
Utilized knowledge of scientific principles and techniques to troubleshoot problems encountered during the course of research.
Thesis: “Effects of Stress Concentration Due to Contact Area Variation on the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Soil“. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of stress concentration due to roughness variation on the uniaxial compressive strength of soil (UCS) for white clay. This study provides a better understanding about the behavior of soil and structures due to stress concentration distribution considering the surface shape variation. A 3d light scanner is implemented to get a high-accuracy measurement of the roughness in the specimens; Furthermore, the experimental research results related to the UCS were re-examined by a numerical model based on Finite Element Method (FEM) which provides a reliable interpretation of failure mechanisms.
Geotechnical Intern – Tailings & Water Group
Freeport – McMoRan
Green Valley, AZ
05.2021 - 08.2021
Conducted stability analysis for Twin Buttes 2 and Twin Buttes 3 at inactive Twin Buttes site to confirm the results provided by the Engineer of Record. These are inactive dams which analysis helps in detecting defects. Engineering principles are then established to avoid dam failure.
Acquired geotechnical instrumentation knowledge about inclinometers and performed hand calculations using field inclinometer measurements to validate inclinometer software results.
Conducted a desktop study to evaluate the performance of horizontal drains at the URAD Upper and Lower Tailing Storage Facilities.
