Project Experience

  • Co-Housing (2024) – This project is located adjacent to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, positioned at the intersection of a residential neighborhood and the university campus. Site research revealed a stark demographic divide, with younger individuals primarily on the campus side and middle-aged or older residents in the neighborhood. The project seeks to bridge this divide by creating a shared space and communal living environment. The design transforms the site into a space that fosters interaction and weakens boundaries, aiming to make the university town more inclusive and community-centered.
  • GreenIsland Market (2022) – Located at 306 W Springfield Ave, Urbana, IL, this project focuses on revitalizing the intersection of residential and commercial zones. Research highlighted low activity levels in the commercial district on weekdays, leading to a design that applies biophilic principles to enhance usability and appeal. By incorporating natural elements and patterns, the project transforms the district into a welcoming and relaxing space. It aims to address residents’ physical and mental fatigue after work, promoting well-being while encouraging greater community engagement.
  • Blooming Soundscape (2024) – Designed for the Sansusi Sound Sculpture Competition, this bamboo-structured stage integrates harmoniously with its environment, providing facilities for rest and performance. The design features flower-shaped seating and petal-like canopies that enhance acoustics and shelter. Bamboo, chosen for its sustainability and flexibility, forms semi-outdoor spaces ideal for the subtropical climate. Prefabricated bamboo and palm materials, along with copper chimes, add a sensory dimension, blending sound and light effects. The project highlights the potential of sustainable materials in creating immersive, nature-inspired spaces for music festivals.
