School-Based Support Team (SBST) Social Workers

SBST Social Workers are integral to supporting special education services for students. I work in more than one school. As a school-based IEP team clinician and social worker, I provide students with timely assessments of their eligibility and need for special education services. The team is generally responsible for evaluating students referred for special education evaluation. The top priority for school-based IEP team members is to ensure that IEPs are accurately assessed promptly.

• Provide targeted supports to individuals and selective services to identified groups, with a caseload comprising students in shelter or temporary housing

• Deliver at-risk counseling with an emphasis on trauma-focused practices

• Conduct workshops for parents

• Make needed referrals for health and professional services and access to public benefits

• Provide workshops and support to school staff to educate them on the issues facing students in shelter and temporary housing, and the social-emotional needs of this population

• Communicate and coordinate with other adults who may be supporting a family in the shelter

• Coordinate with the school-based STH liaison to ensure the basic needs of students in shelters are met

The Family Leadership Coordinator plays a critical role in helping to develop and strengthen parent and family involvement in the school and district levels, with the goal of promoting student success and is responsible for supporting parent leadership and community engagement in the district. The FLC works with various committees and school base teams.

• Model and Promote the District 7 vision and core values
• Creating a welcoming and professional office environment for families
• Assisting the Superintendent in implementing governance regulations and supporting logistical planning
• Providing support and professional development to school and district parent leadership structures including parent coordinators, PTAs, and Presidents Council
• Identifying schools where communication with families has been challenging and developing community outreach strategies
• Serving as a district communication liaison to various DOE offices on community concerns and operational requests
• Promoting district-level family and community engagement activities and communications
• Serve as the district webmaster, podcast producer and social media manager
• Represent the district and provide support during family meetings, workshops, and district events including Community Cafes.
• Work cross-functionally with internal offices in the implementation of DOE initiatives within the school community
• Gathering, analyzing, and sharing family and community members’ feedback with the Superintendent and Family Support Coordinator and working to develop community-based initiatives
• Spearheading family information and action work for the district
• Assist the Superintendent with implementing governance regulations and work with all district related committees, teams, parent leaders and staff. This may involve
• Performs duties as delegated by the Superintendent.

As an education assistant / Crisis Paraprofessional / Para Classroom Manager, I worked with all students on a one-on-one basis, providing academic and behavioral support through positive reinforcement

• Supporting students in small group instruction as outlined by the classroom teacher and the lesson plan
• Providing language assistance for bilingual students
• In addition to all other paraprofessional duties, as Paraprofessional Classroom Manager I also manage classrooms of students, while the teacher is not present assisting students with
• Independent work, work on various activities and projects, in the event of an emergency, as a Paraprofessional Classroom Manager, I may teach a scheduled class when no teacher is available to cover
• As community liaison, I worked on developing strong community school relationships, including building and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders, local government officials, students, and families like
• Assisting our newly arrived asylum-seeking families with medical services
