Clinical Year at LAUMC-RH and Affiliated Sites
During my clinical year at LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital (LAUMC-RH), I had the opportunity to rotate through various medical and surgical specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, I gained hands-on experience in patient care, diagnosis, and treatment planning. This year further enhanced my skills in performing physical examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests, and actively participating in clinical decision-making. I also completed rotations at affiliated sites, including Rafic Hariri University Hospital, Hôpital Psychiatrique de la Croix, outpatient clinics, and several medical dispensaries across Lebanon. These experiences involved outpatient care, community health initiatives, and emergency medicine, solidifying my ability to manage diverse patient populations from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Observational Internship, Clemenceau Medical Center Affiliated with Johns Hopkins
In my first year of high school, I attended an observational internship at Clemenceau Medical Center. During this time, I had the opportunity to observe several departments, including the Operating Room, Endoscopy, Radiology, Cardiac Cath, and ENT Clinic. This experience provided me with a broad overview of professional life in healthcare. It was after this exposure that I became fully committed to pursuing medicine as my career path.
Extracurriculum & Research experience
Medical Research Volunteer Program (RNFL and GCL Thickness in MS Correlation with Disease Duration and MS Risk Factors)
I began participating in this program during the fall of my junior year in undergrad, working alongside a doctor in medical engineering on a study concerning Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My primary role involved organizing and summarizing patient medical records for the study, which provided me with a deeper understanding of both the care center involved and the disease itself. This experience enhanced my research skills and exposed me to the ethical considerations inherent in medical research. Additionally, I gained a better understanding of various medical imaging techniques that are crucial for both research and the diagnosis of different diseases.
AUB Tomorrow's Leaders Gender Scholars Program
During the fall of my senior undergraduate year, I had the opportunity to join this program, where I participated in several workshops with gender scholars and submitted two papers on gender issues that are currently up for publication. This program deepened my knowledge of gender and its impact on social institutions and daily life. I believe this experience increased my awareness of how gender influences the healthcare system, and it has strengthened my ability to identify and address gender bias, ultimately contributing to providing high-quality psychological and physical care for future patients.
Year-Long Project at LAU
I have been involved in a supervised applied research activity that spans both the first and second medical years, which has extended into my fourth year due to its success. As part of the YLP, groups of students identify a health issue of local or global significance and design a research project to address it. Currently, my group is nearing the publication of a paper concerning sexual assault awareness in Lebanon and its impact on various individuals.
Volunteer Work
I have actively participated in several volunteer initiatives across Lebanon, both medically and non-medically. Following the Beirut port explosion, I assisted in providing immediate support to affected individuals, contributing to the relief efforts during one of the country’s most challenging times. In addition, I regularly volunteer for beach cleanups and participate in public health campaigns focused on improving environmental sustainability and community well-being. These experiences have deepened my commitment to service and provided valuable insights into healthcare and community resilience.
