I have taught at Hickory Flat Elementary School for twenty-nine years. I have taught students in fourth and fifth grades. In the subjects of ELA, Science, and Social Studies. In 2017 I was offered by my principal a job position of Early Intervention Teacher (EIP) for students in grades kindergarten-third at Hickory Flat. In this position, I worked with students kindergarten, first, and second grades using interventions to help learn letter names, sounds, CVC words, and reading skills. In math for grades kindergarten, first and second basic addition and subtraction. Third grade students reading for understanding to help build reading comprehension and paragraph writing.
In 2022, my job description expanded to include 504 and Response to Interventions (RTI) chairperson for these grades. My role in this area was to work with teachers and parents to schedule the 504 or RTI meetings. My other responsibilities were to complete necessary paper work, led the meeting and typed meeting notes, accommodations, and collect student data. In 2025, I am currently in this same role, but working with students in grades third and fourth.
Also, I do have my ESOL endorsement and I serve as the ESOL teacher for students in fourth grade.
