An internal medicine resident aspiring to become a Nephrologist - Educator - Researcher. In addition to consistently being a prepared and enthusiastic learner, spend time tutoring and helping other students, as well as colleagues doing research. During the past nine years, in different roles, have initiated programs and projects to revitalize and develop new learning initiatives and mentorship opportunities to help others learn and do research effectively.

  • Neph-ICU SR&MA is a group to conduct SR&MA-related Nephrology ICU
  • Used to organize biweekly meetings, prepare meeting agenda for each session, and remind members to keep their studies' status up-to-date
  • Explored functions of Nested-Knowledge - new integrated platform for managing SR-MA. Gave feedback to this platform's admin to increase its user-friendly characteristic
  • Developed instructions, SOP materials, and protocol templates for group

  • Carried out study assessing pharmacists' workflows to determine how an AI model can assist them in dosing vancomycin in the ICU, and reshape how the interaction with physicians should be.
  • In CERTAIN program, under the supervision of Dr Gajic and Dr. Niven
  • Instructed and worked closely on quality improvement projects proposed by seven Vinmec hospitals and guided by Mayo Clinic faculty members
  • Introduced concepts of quality improvement, which are still unfamiliar in Viet Nam, elicited novel ideas, and detected clinical gaps in their settings
  • Evaluated the feasibility of projects and provided advice on variable selection and measurement
  • Developed Redcap templates for collecting data and addressing emerging questions
  • Measured the impacts of QI projects and publish results.

  • As the coordinator and co-team leader of this program in Viet Nam, responsible for translating 20 didactic lectures and video demonstrations into Vietnamese
  • In Brightspace, as an instructor, redesigned, planned, and implemented inclusive, interactive, and learner-friendly medical education curriculum for Vietnamese physicians and nurses
  • Developed learning module about Mechanical Ventilation
  • Moderated weekly case discussion or core presentation
  • Collaborated with the Vinmec team to prepare for case discussion, and generate key messages at the end to leverage the benefits and enhance the learning experience for participants. Had initiatives to facilitate their engagement

  • Conducted several projects simultaneously
  • Led a study with the aim of figuring out the association between climate change and ICU admissions
  • Developed the study protocol, proposed analysis methods, performed trial analysis on collected data, and prepared grant submissions
  • In the first stage, worked on weather data in Minnesota and ICU admission at Mayo Clinic Rochester for over 10 years
  • In the second stage, conducted national data collection. This requires me to process a large dataset from the 49 states located in the North American continent and patients' data from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS)
  • Managed data of thousands of ECMO patients in Mayo Clinic Rochester, Florida, and built a database for studies related to this topic
  • Conducted one study evaluating the survival and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing combined CRRT and ECMO for non-clearance purposes and prepared for its grant submission.

  • Mentored and led a team of undergraduates to collect data of up to a thousand sepsis/septic shock patients during ten years in Cho Ray
  • Hospital to build up the database for the critical care department
  • Performed quantitative evaluations to ensure the collected data are correct
  • Prepared study protocols, IRB submissions, abstracts, and manuscripts
  • Coordinated the research and educational activities, contacted other centers and organizations for international medical cooperation, and looked for as well as assisted in inviting speakers for the 20th National Scientific Congress of Vietnam Association of Critical Care Medicine, Emergency and Clinical Toxicology - 2020 (however, it was canceled due to the pandemic)

  • Performed literature search, screened titles, abstracts, and full texts, extracted data, double-checked data, analyzed data, and prepared manuscripts
  • Set timeline, encouraged members to follow the timeline, assigned tasks to members, checked tasks' quality, addressed discrepancies and conflicts among members, and gave evaluation for each task
  • Connected faculty members and expanded institutional collaboration and student involvement in research
  • This gave me first-hand research experience and helped me to perceive the notion of evidence-based medicine

  • Volunteer/service/advocacy - Support all patients with malignant diseases undergoing chemotherapy
  • Had the privilege to connect, interact and learn from patients during the toughest times of their lives
  • This is a much more diverse patient population than in my previous clinical experiences, reminding me that compassionate care knows no boundaries like race, religion, or sexual orientation.

  • I was the only student in my class selected to be a tutor for junior medical students (MS) (2nd and 3rd year)
  • This activity aimed to develop doctoring and core clinical skills for those who found it difficult to start the clinical year as well as generate connections and bonds between senior and junior MS
  • Improved students' clinical competencies through facilitating weekly small group discussions to address emerging clinical questions
  • Designed simulation cases and mock tests to prepare MS for end-of-rotation exams
  • At the end of my tutoring year, my tutees improved significantly from being graded as average to good students
  • Most importantly, they could confidently interact and connect with patients.

Hobbies & Interests

  • Traveling and cooking are my favorite activities. When traveling, I often go on "adventures" in grocery stores to find ingredients to use in new and authentic recipes to treat my friends.
  • Music: I love interpreting the lyrics of 70s and 80s Japanese city pop songs.
  • Sports: I also enjoy swimming 2-3 times a week. My favorite strokes are the backstroke and breaststroke.
