  • Nurse Educator for the U.S. Air Force Critical Care Nursing Fellowship, a year-long course that includes six-weeks of didactic lectures and simulation lab time, followed by 10-months of clinical experiences in two Level 1 Trauma Centers in San Antonio, TX.
  • Considered a subject-matter expert in care management and evidence-based practice, duties include writing and up-dating lesson plans, writing test questions, conducting 187 hours of Clinical Education Units (CEUs) to 40 RN students per year transitioning into the critical care environment.
  • Duties also include writing and up-dating lesson plans to Power Point and Blackboard; writing test questions and submitting to QuiaWeb.
  • In managing students, was responsible for clinical scheduling and skills verification in clinical rotations at two facilities and a total of 11 ICUs and two ERs.
  • Lecture topics include advanced discussions in respiratory system, including rapid sequence intubation, ventilator management, AB interpretation, and adjunct airways; cardiac system, including hemodynamic monitoring, vasopressor management, PA catheter insertion and management, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), and Extracorporeal Life Support (ECMO); neuro system, including ventriculostomy insertion and management, intracranial pressure monitoring; and all other body systems.
  • Also provided lectures and role-playing guidance in palliative care, communication, nurse ethics, self-care, teambuilding, and conflict resolution.

Clinical Research Compliance Coordinator/Nurse Quality Assurance

  • Developed expert level of competency in care management, clinical analysis, evidence-based practice and healthcare education.
  • As a Staff Nurse in the 16-bed Burn ICU, was responsible for the complete care of burn and trauma patients, including triage, stabilization, intubation and ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, vasopressor management, sedation, CRRT, ECMO, and post-op recovery.
  • Developed the first ever Burn Unit Skills Fair, educating and evaluating clinical skills of Burn medical staff and nurses on a quarterly basis.
  • Also provided out-reach classes to local nursing schools during their burn and trauma modules, as part of the Burn Center’s community outreach program.
  • Identified a deficiency in Mock Code Blue training compliance in the unit and became the Mock Code Blue coordinator and educator.
  • As preceptor coordinator, was responsible for on-boarding new hires and providing initial burn care education and orientation.
  • Was also responsible for selecting and training preceptors on the unit, pairing preceptors and new hires, and monitoring and evaluating preceptor success.
  • Conducted research into preceptor training techniques and satisfaction to improve preceptor retention.
  • Also served as a co-author with an EBP team on several journal articles on preceptor development and retention.
