Summary

  • I have lots of experience working with students of different backgrounds and different needs. I have been very successful in bringing out the positive qualities in my students, and making them feel like they can succeed. I am seeking a job as a reading or math interventionist and would also like to do inclusion. I enjoy working with my students and love seeing their progress. Special Education has been a very rewarding field for me!

LaVergne High School
  • I was a soccer player and cheerleader.
  • I loved my public speaking class the best of any class from high school.
  • We would get to make impromptu speeches and about things we believed in.
  • I remember giving a speech like this after lunch after seeing some kids make fun of a girl with special needs.

01.2007 - Current
  • I traveled with about 10 special education students with various disabilities to their classes in 6th, 7th and 8th grade inclusion.
  • Some had ADD, ADHD, LD, LI, Dyslexia and FD.
  • I worked with probably 20 different teachers over these years of doing inclusion.
  • I also taught SRA Corrective Reading exclusively for 2 years.
  • I loved it.
  • The people I taught always made me laugh and I helped them read.
  • I could see real progress using this program with most students.
  • For 2 years I was the teacher of record teaching out of the Common Core Literature textbooks.
  • I taught Reading, English and Math for all 3 grade levels at the Middle school.
  • I taught TCAP objectives and worked on the students IEP goals.
  • We enjoyed the stories and activities in the Literature books.
  • I also enjoyed the online Math lessons and quizzes I found and matching activities through the online textbooks.

  • I started working here part time at first, while I was still working at Rockvale Elementary in order to try to pay off my school loans.
  • I loved teaching the mostly women who were going back to school to get better jobs.
  • I taught Developmental Math, which is ironic considering I hated math my whole life.
  • But that is why I could understand their struggles.
  • Then I also taught English and Study Skills classes.

  • At Blackman High School I taught a class for students with severe/profound disabilities.
  • I supervised 4 educational assistants and over 30 students.
  • I also worked with job coaches and went out to the job sites to see how everything was going.
  • I also taught Math, Reading and Daily Living Skills.
  • Some students took TCAP and for some we did portfolios.
  • I also had many students go to inclusion classes and collaborated with teachers and education assistants.
  • When I left this job I transferred to Rockvale Elementary and taught there for 2 years.
  • I taught resource Reading and Math.
  • I also coached the cheerleaders and ran field day! Field Day is a huge event and it went pretty well.
  • We made lots of money for the school and I had lots of help from parents.

I received my Bachelors Degree in Speech and Communication Disorders. I then returned to school to study Special Education / Mild to Moderate and got my teacher certification k-12 460.

Accomplishments

I was selected to be in the Renaissance Program (an honorary program for teachers).

Affiliations

Member of Professional Educators of Tennessee. 

I was invited to Governor Haslam's panel of teachers (meeting in October 2015) and I gave a speech on the testing of Special Education students. Then was asked to be on the Task Force to create a new yearly test. I declined the offer, but great changes were made to the yearly test for the students and I am so happy with the new test. I think we made a difference!

I am certified 460 Mild /Moderate k-12 and highly qualified. I renewed my license in 2014 and it is good until 2025. I took continuing education classes online through MTSU.
