Consumer Networking Technologies REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) - Supported by NSF
I participated in a 10-week program supported by NSF in where I engaged, as part of an undergraduate research team, in a scientific research project in which we evaluated Sleep Stage classification using Deep Learning
Our motivation was to provide an automatic, non-invasive, and more accessible method of classifying sleep stages by gathering data from the hydraulic bed sensor and analyzing the data via a deep learning approach
Research: Conducted literary reviews of previously conducted sleep studies to deepen my understanding of PSG, deep learning techniques, and neural networks
Developed a keen understanding of laboratory methods, which included literary review, documentation, research documentation, IRB training
Attended presentations to learn more about undergraduate research and the academic environment
Submitted an abstract to 2021 IEEE BIBM Virtual Conference: Sleep Stage Classification Using Non-Invasive Bed Sensing and Deep Learning
Experiments: Compiled data gathered from hydraulic bed sensors using Jupyter Notebook and Python programming
Used a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)- Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) hybrid model with 2 CNNs of different filter sizes for feature extraction
These features are then fed into the LSTM for classification
Then we compared our findings to the gold standard for sleep monitoring: Polysomnography (PSG)
PSG is a comprehensive study of biological data gathered from test subjects using various sensors.
Virtual Externship Student
AT&T
06.2020 - 07.2020
Due to my scheduled IT internship at Lincoln University being cancelled because of COVID-related concerns, I participated in the 2020 AT&T Externship
I had the opportunity to listen to well-esteemed guest speakers such as Molly Bloom, Dr
Sanjay Gupta, Dr
Michael Breus, and many more
Each gave their own advice about how to find opportunities in your life, how to make the best use of such opportunities, and how to improve and take care of yourself so that you can flourish
Concepts reviewed by the guest stars were: Team collaboration, research practices, problem resolution, networking, and Media Design.
