Summary

Pre-medical student interested in insulin resistance, fat metabolism, exercise physiology, and how metabolic disease affects long-term health. After losing over 80 pounds, I became much more interested in the science behind insulin, nutrition, and fat loss. Ophthalmology ophthalmology experience has shown me the clinical impact of diabetes on vision, and hopes to contribute to research that helps explain and prevent metabolic disease.

Education

Bachelor of Science - Molecular Biology

Brigham Young University
Provo, UT
04-2027

Skills

  • Knowledgeable in insulin nutrition but ready to learn so much more
  • Teachable eager to learn
  • Dependable
  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Confident

Research Goals

  • Contribute to current research on insulin resistance, mitochondrial dysfunction, adipose biology, allulose, and smoke-induced inflammation.
  • Learn how metabolic stressors such as hyperinsulinemia, environmental toxins, oxidative stress, and inflammation disrupt insulin signaling and cellular function.
  • Support funded projects through literature review, data collection, experimental prep, and analysis wherever needed.
  • Build toward an ophthalmology-focused research question by exploring how these same pathways may contribute to diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular damage, and preventable vision loss.
  • Long term, I hope to connect metabolic research with ophthalmology by better understanding how systemic insulin resistance and diabetes damage ocular tissues.

Affiliations

  • Co-Director of Vida Sana with Isaac Thompson and Tanner Sessions - Provo, Utah (Current)
  • Ophthalmology Technician - Fresno, CA (2023-2024)
