Pafumi Lawn Care was 2 years old when I started and had no employees previously. I was hired to train 2 other employees who had no experience in the industry.
We would mow up to 23 lawns in a day. Routine maintenance would be done on all of the equipment. Made sure our work environment was clean and safe. One of my favorite parts of the job was to communicate with the customers which usually lead to more business.
I was the counselor for Dana Hall at Eagle Hill High school. Dana Hall is a boys dorm where 32 students from the ages of 12 to 14 stayed. These students not only came from around the country but around the world. I would stay from Friday 4pm to Sunday 5pm.
My main focus was to keep all my students happy and safe. Made a connection with each student and their parents/guardians. I found being open and honest in a leading role worked in my previous jobs so I did the same to earn each individuals trust. This helped when serious questions or situations arose.
Each student had an itinerary that I'd help them with. I was asked to take notes on noteworthy situations. In a leader role I don't believe in pointing out just the negative so I made sure I pointed out the positive as well.
I would communicate to the appropriate staff for certain situations. I'd also keep in touch with their teachers to make sure they noticed anything about a student. I'd keep in constant communication with their parents/guardians.
At BB Landscaping I worked myself up to head crew leader. My jobs would consist of planting to chainsawing trees off of cliffs near powerlines. We were a subcontractor to National Grid in all of western MA and Central MA with 2 stations in Vermont. I communicated with Nation Grid head of security and their employees. Our job for Nation Grid was to keep the fences in and out of substations clear of debris and inspecting the fences as well as maintain all their properties.
Locally, I would mow or do projects. As the crew lead I made sure our work environment was as safe as can be. Teaching all new employees how to properly/safely do their job. I would communicate to the owner about everything noteworthy. Took extensive notes.
I took the lead on the Merrimack valley explosions. We were contracted to make 3 cities environmentally safe for major construction work. Keeping logs on what equipment was used, employee hours, employee spending (stayed in Worcester) and anything worth mentioning to the owner.
I kept great relationships with customers over my ten years at BB Landscaping. I took great pride in communicating and translating to the customers on what we were doing and how long it would take.
Kept a very clean work environment as well as routinely maintaining my equipment.
I was voted in as a representative of Monson, MA on the board of directors at M-PACT. As a member, I would go to meetings with other board members and the general manager. During these meetings, we would discuss and vote on finances, strategy, legal issues, compensation, among many more things. What I enjoyed the most about this job was strategy and bringing a vision together. I learned at this position that translating what people mean is very important for efficiency, clarity, and just a better atmosphere at the workplace.
