- Respond to wildland fire calls in and out of district
- Perform daily and weekly maintenance of fire unit buildings, grounds, and equipment
- Interact with other agencies in a professional and cooperative manner
- Record and document pertinent information related to the emergency incident
- Perform well under pressure which may require strenuous exertion in the face of smoke, high temperatures and steep terrain
- Participate in frequent training sessions to maintain basic wildland firefighting skills
- Maintain fitness through daily physical training exercises
- Drive fire engine to the scene
- Operate a two-way radio to effectively communicate with dispatch and other units on-scene
- Inspect, clean, and maintain engine and equipment
- Extinguish flames and embers to suppress fires with a variety of hand tools and water delivery devices
- Attend trainings and gain qualifications to further increase my efficacy as a firefighter
- Operate pumps connected to high-pressure hoses
- Patrol previously burned areas after fire containment to locate and eliminate hot spots
- Lead crews in gridding operations to systematically eliminate hotspots during mop-up
- Observe strict safety protocols to maintain personal and coworker safety
- Test and inspect tools, equipment and gear to maintain readiness for different fire scenarios
