Assistant Principal
Kansas City Public Schools
08.2022 - 08.2023
As a member of the NorthEast Middle School Administrative Team, I was tasked with a plethora of responsibilities with both an academic and behavioral focus. These included duties such as substitute coverage plans (daily), behavior referral completion, district supported discipline hearings, continuous parental contact, bus communication lead, focused community engagement strategies, stakeholder engagement across grade levels, etc. Unfortunately, during the 21/22, NEMS experienced a fatality on-campus that required many security protocols to be overhauled and implemented during the 22/23 school year. I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the people selected to complete this daunting work. Through focused and targeted interventions, I was able to reduce in-school tardies overall by 30% with a 5% fluctuation weekly. Scholar achievement rose in the departments under my direct supervision, Social Studies and Math, as well as staff retention of 90% was experienced with my direct reports. NEMS is a challenging environment, however through refocusing and remotivating the staff we were able to move from 209 days OSS (average)/month to just 65 days OSS (average)/month. This number was spread amongst 500 scholars. As an element of our Adult Continuing Education Plan, a strategic book study was implemented through a collaboration with myself and the Building Leadership Team that allowed staff to identify their own biases in the classroom and create a strategic plan to confront and dismiss those biases. Research has found that unidentified teacher bias can hold scholars back from their full potential. Once implemented, scholars at NEMS grew in each subject area, except 1, from 5%-45% over the previous school year.
Grade Level Chair
KIPP Inspire Charter School
08.2018 - 07.2023
I was employed at one of St. Louis’ premier charter schools-KIPP Inspire Academy as the 6th Grade Level Chair and science teacher. I would become responsible for turning around the behaviors within the sixth grade through Restorative Learning Practices and targeted interventions, as well as working with my grade level on norming best teacher practices. Throughout the school year I was responsible for holding CARE and Black Coffee team meetings, in which many tough conversations were had, as well as diversifying the curriculum in Science and Social Studies to support the present student body. Through a collaborative approach, the sixth grade team was able to experience an academic increase of approximately 42% on school based assessments locally, as well as increase our KIPP national rankings by 39%. Attendance, with the reduction of out of school suspensions, rose to 95% overall and daily referrals saw an astonishing drop of over 68% for the year. During my time at KIPP I also:
Led grade-level team meetings to align curriculum and instructional strategies.
Coordinated professional development workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Mentored new teachers, providing guidance on classroom management and lesson planning.
Developed assessment tools to evaluate student progress and instructional impact.
Collaborated with administration to implement school-wide initiatives and policies.
Analyzed student performance data to identify areas for improvement in instruction.
Facilitated communication between parents and teachers to support student success.
Organized community events to foster school engagement and strengthen partnerships.
Boosted student engagement through the incorporation of hands-on activities and real-world applications for subject matter.
Enhanced student comprehension by utilizing various teaching strategies and adapting to diverse learning styles.
Established clear expectations and provided constructive feedback, resulting in improved student performance across multiple grade levels.
Organized extracurricular clubs and activities that aligned with curriculum objectives, providing an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom setting.
Streamlined administrative tasks such as grading assignments and updating lesson plans using digital tools, allowing for more focused attention on student growth during instructional time.
Grade Level Team Leader
Riverview Gardens School District
08.2016 - 01.2018
While employed as a third grade teacher at Koch Elementary School within the RGSD. I employ the use of strategic intervention, RTI, small group instruction, constant progress monitoring, and an array of various strategies to reduce the achievement gap. I also serve as Lead Teacher for the 3rd-grade team and am a member of the Building Leadership Team. This position requires that I act as liaison between administration and 3rd-grade educators. My duties include mentoring new teachers, providing feedback during inter-team coaching sessions, assessment coordination, data dissection, community and parent outreach, and building working relationships with local businesses.
Educator
Ferguson-Florissant Schools
09.2015 - 06.2016
For the 2015/2016 school year, I was employed as a second grade classroom reduction teacher at Halls Ferry Elementary School due to abnormal classroom size. Daily I employed various academic strategies in a strategic effort to have 100% of my students reach 1 year’s growth in reading and math alike. These included things like a variety of current research-based strategies, activities and interventions. Although I always start where students are and bring them forward, in order to get on grade-level, some students required more than a year’s worth of growth. These students belonged to my All-Star team and received strategic, systematic interventions daily to help reach their individual goals. I have met and exceeded the teacher goals set for me as well as by year’s end, 88% of my students had surpassed their counterparts, using growth charts from STAR and teacher made assessments for the comparison.
Educator
Saint Louis Public Schools
08.2010 - 08.2015
I began my career as an educator within the Saint Louis Public School System. My last assignment was as a Second Grade Teacher at Dewey International Studies. Over the course of my career with the district I educated students spanning Kindergarten to High School French. This movement within the school district allowed me to fill my teacher toolbox with strategies, interventions, and differentiation tools that equipped me to reach every student at his/her individual academic level and bring them forward. Weekly parental contacts, daily strategic interventions, rotating small groups, and exit tickets are just a couple of aspects involved in my complex teaching and management methodology. This experience also allowed me to develop my “no excuses” in student movement philosophy that continues to propel me to expect the best from all students.
