Ifeanyi Christian Onyebuchi

I worked as a post-graduate student in the Thoracic Surgery Department at Yijishan Hospital. During this period, I was able to manage patients by performing minor procedures such as chest tube removal, wound dressing and debridement, chest tube placement, blood withdrawal (venipuncture), urinary catheterization and removal, as well as gastric tube placement and removal. I assisted in over 100 surgeries as the first assistant and the surgery categories are Ivor Lewis esophagectomy, Mckeown esophagectomy, Inflatable transcervical mediastinoscopy esophagectomy, Uniportal VAT lung segmentectomy, Uniportal VAT lobectomy, Uniportal VAT wedge resection, Subxiphoid and transthoracic thymectomy, VAT posterior mediatinum tumor resection, Empyema surgery, rib fracture fixation, Davinci Robotic Si System assisted esophagectomy (got a first assistant Surgeon certificate). I have also had the opportunity to perform surgeries such as bullectomy for pneumothorax, wedge resection and segmentectomy for lung tumors, I have participated in numerous thoracic surgery conferences, meetings, and lectures. For instance, I traveled to Shanghai with my supervisor to learn about the Da Vinci Si robotic system and bronchoscopy, where I received a certificate for first assistant participation. Since then, I have assisted in more than five surgeries using the Da Vinci Si robotic system. I also attended the 5th edition of the Aesculap Academy intermediate training course on 3D thoracoscopic surgery for chest tumors in Suzhou, where I had the opportunity to practice my surgical skills on a pig model. Additionally, I have traveled to various cities in Anhui Province to assist my supervisor in surgeries as the first assistant surgeon and attend lectures, including delivering a lecture on lung cancer tumors and the different surgical techniques used for their resection.

I was also interviewed twice by Xinhua News Agency due to my learning and work ethics. My story was among the highlight of the 2024 China-Africa forum summit.
