Proficient in the clinical diagnosis of different hematological and oncological problems; integrating
clinical examination, laboratory findings, and imaging results to arrive at the most likely diagnosis and
employing the latest available therapeutic regimens and approaches in the management of cancer and blood disorders. Enthusiastic about the transfer of the latest bench advances in cancer research to the bedside and monitoring patients' responses with the overall aim of improving overall cancer care outcomes.
This is my first attending job post fellowship. Here, I apply my decades-long medical training in the management of a wide variety of hematological and oncological problems. I am double board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology. As a community practitioner, I see all cases of benign hematology, malignant hematology and solid tumors. Given the long distance from the nearest gynecologic oncology practice, I also manage advanced gynecologic cancers. I am active in the multidisciplinary tumor board meeting which holds biweekly at the local hospital, joining the surgeons, radiologists, interventional radiologists, pathologists, pulmonologists, and radiation oncologists to recommend appropriate management for different cancer types and stages. In this local hospital, I am also credentialed to see inpatients and take calls every 2 weeks per month.
Succinctly, fellowship training involves inpatient and
outpatient care of patients with blood related disorders, hematological malignancies and solid tumors and the complications arising from their treatment under the supervision of attending hematologists/oncologists. I participated in a detailed educational component involving didactics, cancer research, direct and indirect assessments and teaching of medical students and internal medicine residents. Under the mentorship of my academic advisor, we worked on different projects from bench to chair, including a clinical trial involving the
combination of agents for the 3rd line treatment of colorectal cancer. I collaborated with other medical specialty personnel under different scenarios and fora including multidisciplinary tumor boards to
provide personalized patient-focused care. I attended many ASCO and ASH meetings and presented completed projects in a few of them.
Residency training in internal medicine at the well known Grady memorial hospital in Atlanta, perfecting the skills to become a well rounded internist. I integrated findings from history and physical examinations into reasonably ordered differential diagnoses, ordered and executed diagnostic tests and analyzed diagnostic images to further investigate patient conditions, and provided a
care plan based on the most likely diagnoses. Participated in a number of assigned educational activities, including didactics, conferences, rotations, periodic testing and mentor/advisor meetings. Anticipated patients' needs, conducted discharge planning and created individualized disease management and prevention plans, including
patient self-management and behavior change.
Performed triage, initial evaluation, and stabilization of patients presenting to the Emergency room before admitting or referring them to the appropriate medical departments. Assessed vital signs, collected detailed patient history and noted other signs of acuity to make
rapid, informed decisions regarding next steps in patient care. Worked as part of a team to evaluate a wide variety of ailments and determining the appropriate course of treatment
Worked briefly at Glenfield which is a cardio/respiratory referral center near Leicester, East Midlands. Quite a few of my shifts were in the CCU and the rest on Cardiology wards as a locum SHO. I was exposed to the management of patients with different kinds of cardiovascular diseases and assisted with procedures in the catheterization labs.
I worked on a locum basis at the level of a junior trainee in accident and emergency (ED). This gave me flexibility to dedicate more study time towards my USMLE Step 2CK. Apart from QMC in Nottingham, I also did similar job at PINDERFIELDS General Hospital in Wakefield. The work involves seeing patients that present the first time to the emergency department, taking history, performing brief physical examination, ordering for relevant initial investigations, providing emergency treatment before transferring them to the appropriate specialties or discharging them home.
Provided inpatient care to post-operative trauma and orthopedic patients, taking care of their general medical problems and complications arising from their surgery when present. Assisted the surgeons in the OR for procedures such as hip replacements, knee replacements,
shoulder replacements, open reduction and internal fixation of fractures and wash out of infected joints
Participated in morning conferences where patients' scans and imagings are analyzed by a team of orthopedic surgeons and trainees and the best surgical approaches agreed on.
Performed clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, interpreting EKGs, suturing simple wounds, writing and updating patients' prescriptions; educated patients about procedures, conditions and medications . Took care of patients with different types of hematological cancers who were admitted for chemotherapy or therapy-related complications such as neutropenic fever, tumor lysis syndrome, hypercalcemia, and sepsis . As the RMO, I resided within the hospital and provided inpatient care for post-op patients across all surgical specialties, taking care of their medical problems and working in liaison with the Consultant Surgeons to treat complications from their surgeries.
I worked in the Department of Anatomical Sciences as a clinical tutor but also covered Neuroscience. This involves moderating small group discussions with medical students on anatomy, histology, embryology as well as neuroscience. We did teachings in the mornings and reviews with our instructors in the afternoons. During this time, I was AHA certified in BLS, ACLS and PALS
Was a medical officer in the department of internal medicine, mostly admitting patients from the emergency department and medical clinics and caring for them for the duration of their hospital stay. Rounded everyday with the consultant and performed general inpatient medical tasks including simple procedures like EKGs, insertion of IV lines, phlebotomies, ABGs, nebulization and administration of complex medications
Fresh out of medical school, this is the equivalent of intern year in the US. Involved rotations through the departments of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics & gynecology and pediatrics and their different sub-specialties. Did more of floor work, ordering medications, monitoring patients on the unit, performing lab draws and being the first point of call for the nurses with regards to patients' conditions. Was also expected to attend scheduled outpatient clinics depending on the particular rotation. Worked in the labor room and conducted deliveries as well as suturing of simple tears sustained during labor.
