Johnsonville (PK-5), Harnett County School System

  • I was asked by the Superintendent to help improve Johnsonville and increase community involvement
  • In this position I have taken on all duties as a principal and leader of the school from strategic leadership, instructional leadership, cultural leadership, human resources and managerial leadership
  • As the Instructional Leader I restructured the school master schedule to enable all teachers to have individual and team collaborative planning time and duty free lunch
  • Encouraged staff to accept leadership roles both in school and outside of school
  • Oversees the School Improvement Plan to ensure that it is a living document and incorporates principles of continuous improvement
  • I made sure that professional development is available for all staff members that would impact their teaching skills and aligned with SIP
  • As principal of Johnsonville, I have had to reestablish a new Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), Establish a new Advisory Board, Establish a partnership with Campbell University for the benefit of the local community

  • As the Instructional Leader for this school, I am streamlining the practices in Harnett County with ways to better service those students with short suspensions and students which have been awarded the privilege of attending Success Academy for a second chance to graduate
  • I have worked to develop community based involvement on a weekly basis with the Success Academy students to support their secondary educational needs or career pathway
  • Developed new standards for the students such as Dress for Success every Wednesday, Consulting on behaviors and academics with local community leaders
  • This is an alternative setting for students to regain credits and time in order to obtain a high school diploma
  • While at Success Academy I have graduated the most students through this program than it has in the past 15 years
  • I have streamlined the communication from the homeschool to ensure students are getting their work to complete and returned on the same day, therefore, their grades do not suffer
  • Worked with students to continue their educational goals or military career or work skills to obtain a job
  • Referred students to Boys State, Tarheel Challenge or Daymark Center when needed

  • I worked with the Forestry Association and Wildlife Departments to establish a Harnett County wide Environmental Day which is still carried out today for all 5th graders in the county to learn about the Long Leaf Pine, Environment Issues, Consumers/Predators, and Products made from trees and the animals who live in the trees
  • I worked with the teachers to move them from whole group teaching to small group teaching
  • While I was here, I helped to pull this school from being taken over by the state
  • We went from a low performing school to achieving high growth and meeting our AYP two years in a row
  • Then I was asked by the Superintendent to take over the opening of a Freshman Academy at Western Harnett High School
  • I delivered professional development for the county to teachers across the county.

  • Erwin Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member Developed Spring Fling 2016.
  • NCPAPA member, served as past treasurer for HCPAPA in 2007-2009.
  • Served as President of Dunn Junior Woman's Club, VP, Secretary, as well as a general member of GFWC-NC, served as the Arts Chairman for 12 years.
  • Set Up and established the county wide Earth Environmental Day with the Forestry Association and NC Wildlife Agencies. This event continues today for all 5th graders in Harnett County.
  • Junior Director for District 6 at the state level from 2008-2010, held office of District Arts Chairman, and State Arts Chairman till 2006.
  • Member of Alpha Delta Kappa Gamma Pi Chapter since 2005. Currently- President of Gamma Pi (2016-2018) and serving as a State Officer. Served as Scholarship Chairman and conducted the banquet for the past 9 years. We provide five scholarships for future teachers in Harnett County Schools.
