Activities

SCHOOL: 

  • Ted-Ed Club, 8th-9th, Member of the school Ted-Ed Club: Made a Ted-Ed speech about "How does stress affects your brain and how can sports help you academically. It was later given to the public at my high school.
  • KOINONOS Club, 9th-11th, Organizing fundraisers to support the mission of the Vintage Bookstore of the Unhoused-Palaio Vivliopoleio Astegon. The vintage bookstore's mission is to create a space where old books will be re-sold at low prices while creating employment for people that live under unsafe conditions. We created a Kahoot game which includes fun facts about our school community and educational facts regarding homelessness in Greece.
  • IB Student Council, 12th, Elected as Secretary for the IB Student Council Body in my senior year of high school and we organized events for the IB students in school as well as helping them with meeting or extending the deadlines when needed. Raised money for school events such as prom and graduation dinner.
  • Environmental Club, 11th, Participating in different activities which promote sustainability such as beach clean-ups and tree planning near the school campus. Managed to change the school's cafeteria eating utensils from plastic to paper and even purchasable silverware.
  • Yearbook Club, 9th-10th, Helping edit the yearbook as well as writing any columns about any important topics such as quarantine during the school year and about student life at ACS in general.
  • Cross Country Coach, 12th, After being a member of the high school cross country team for four years, in my senior year I was chosen to be the cross country coach for the middle school team. I helped organize the tryouts and the races.


AWARDS: 

  • Coaches Award, 10th, Awarded the Coaches Award in the Year 2020, for the best runner with the greatest discipline in the Cross Country High School Team.
  • MVFR, 11th, Awarded the Most Valuable Female Runner in the Cross Country High School Team in 2021.
  • Skywalkers, Odysseus, 9th, Awarded a Certificate of Achievement in the year 2019, as the semi-finalist in a contest in the Skywalkers Category by Odysseus.
  • OAA Award, 10th, Awarded Outstanding Academic Achievement in the Year 2020 for an amazing performance in Social Studies Year 10.,

VOLUNTEER WORK/COMMUNITY SERVICE:

  • FPYC, 11th, Foreign Policy Youth Collaborative. International Cohort Officer (Europe and Asia). Content producer: Articles concerning present foreign affairs issues. Non-profit organization raising awareness and helping other teenage Students to learn more about foreign policy. Bipartisan information was written by teenagers for teenagers to learn about what is currently happening in the world. Our mission is to allow teenagers from across the world and across the political spectrum to express their opinions as well as educate others about foreign policy and civic activism.
  • Elafonisos Run/Holiday your Fitness, 10th-12th, I have run marathons all over Greece as well as in other countries such as Italy and Israel. Exploring the habit of running and hosting marathons abroad gave me the initiative to start something similar, on a small island in Greece with the help of an Organization called Holiday Your Fitness. We hosted a marathon inspired by other countries' diverse cultures and tried to adapt them in Greece. This year will be the fourth successful execution of the Elafonisos Run! Runners from all over Greece come and adopt the habit of exercising during the Summer holidays.
  • Children's Orphanage in Palestine, 11th, Visited Palestine in 2022 and Volunteered to help at a children's Orphanage hosting more than 50 kids from ages 5 to newborns. Guided them through daily activities and helped with daily tasks such as cleaning the rooms, making beds, and helping with the food.
  • Elafonisos Green, 11th-12th, With a group of people- ages ranging from 16 to 25 - together with the Elafonisos municipality, set a goal to help the sea turtles which once were swimming in the clear waters of our island to now be almost extinct. We built a safe fort for the not-yet hatched eggs of the sea turtles with signs for the tourists to not get close to or touch anything. Built a path for the hatched baby turtles to safely proceed to the ocean without getting caught by their predators, which are seagulls. We made reusable, disposable bags for all citizens of the island so that they would not have to use plastic bags which sea turtles later find in the water and either get trapped or they choke. There has been a 10% increase in sea turtle visibility in the last two years.
  • Greek Patriarchate of Jerusalem, 1st-12th, From a really young age until nowadays I have consistently been visiting the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and helping them with whatever they have in need. Have helped organize the archives in the patriarchate library. Helped with Easter tasks such as the food-making process in the patriarchate kitchen. While helping and providing service to the patriarchate I had the privilege to meet with important people in the Patriarchate and multiple government ministers as well as the foreign affairs minister. Helped with the marketing strategy plan for the Greek Patriarchate's School., Easter break


SUMMER/ONLINE COURSES:

  • Georgetown University Summer Medical Academy, 11th, I had the chance to visit Georgetown University and participate in their Medical Academy summer program in June of 2022. It focused on hands-on lab work and an introduction to human anatomy and pre-med.
  • Understanding International Relations Theory, 11th, Online course focused on the fundamentals and different ideals of International Relations by National Research University - Higher School of Economics, Introduction to American Law.
  • Online course focused on American law by the University of Pennsylvania.


INTERNSHIPS:

  • Langlois Enterprises Ltd., Piraeus, Greece, 11th, I did a two-week internship at a shipping company. One week was devoted to Langlois Enterprises which is a shipping company and the other week was devoted to Newport, which is the ship charterers for Langlois Enterprises. I focused on the operations management for the company and I went through all the departments to see how they operate and what is their aim.
  • Vatica inc., Washington D.C., 10th, Front Desk at a Construction Company. Picking up numerous calls per day to help and please customers' needs. Carried out day-to-day duties accurately and efficiently. Conducted research, gathered information from multiple sources, and presented results. Offering friendly and efficient service to customers, handling challenging situations with ease.
  • Creative Play Preschool and Kindergarten, Athens, Greece, 10th, Preschool and kindergarten assistant. Assisted in Summer Camps for Young children. Helped with organizing trips and educational experiences. First one to organize a Theater Club for Kids. Writing scripts and making plays during the evenings. Demonstrated respect, friendliness, and willingness to help wherever needed. Identified issues, analyzed information, and provided solutions to problems. Carried out day-to-day duties accurately and efficiently.
