Projects

  • Research Project: "Breaking Barriers of Space": Apollo 11. Placed 1st in Minnesota and 4th nationally in the 2020 Junior Exhibit Category of the National History Day competition where over half a million students participate annually. My exhibit/museum based project included a physical board representation, an essay, a process paper, and paperwork utilizing 209 different sources. Utilized primary and secondary sources, such as government publications, newspapers, images, videos, interviews, documentaries, and websites to conduct my research. Spoke with Maureen Sheard, Mearl Clayton, and astronaut Matt Schmidt, who gave first-hand accounts of watching the lunar landing live. Contacted others in the aerospace industry: John Grant, who works on the current Mars missions, and Casey Doran, a software engineer for SpaceX. Respected author Nancy Atkinson, NASA Solar Ambassador Jeffrey Nee, Dr. Asif Siddiqi, and Harvard Professor of Science History Matthew Hersch helped clarify information regarding U.S.-U.S.S.R. relations during the Cold War. Love for space industry sparked here.
  • Research Paper: NASA's Scientist for a Day. Received finalist award for paper on why the Uranus moon Ariel should be a candidate for NASA's next voyage. Describes reasons to return by explaining the geological structure and essentials needed for life on Ariel. As a reward, attended webinar with NASA representatives; Bethany Eppig, Kelsi Singer, and Dipak Srinivasan.
  • Passion Project: 3D-Printing. Gained valuable skills in CAD, programming and problem solving through a passion for 3d-Printing. Continuously upgrading personal printer to expand its capabilities including printed, software, hardware, and other types of upgrades.
  • Robotics Endeavor: As team captain in sophomore year, led the team to numerous awards and the team's first state-berth in the school’s history. In Junior year, led the team to qualify for the world competition and won the Minnesota state competition. Primary roles were as Captain, Programming Lead, and Robot Driver, but often contributed in other ways such as CAD design, robot build, problem solving discussions and even recruiting of other students to the team. Always first to practice and last to leave. Described by coach as passionate and dedicated while still keeping a calm demeanor and conscientious approach to others. Continue to promote the program and inspire younger students through community and school events.
