My job was to assist rod busters, carrying 10ft – 18ft
Rebars across 3 different 100ft bridges, I worked 10 hours that day
I applied the night before starting the job, I was terminated for not having the proper union training, when my foreman and I came to an agreement with the Union Hall, stating that I’d have to learn what I can on the structural rod busting job, and to fully commit by working 10 hours with Local 75 Union Ironworkers
I was supposed to be sent to the union hall in Phoenix, Az, for training after learning as much as I could as an Apprentice on the local job, and my fees and training would be covered by the company
Instead, after work, I got a call and I was told to go to the Union Hall before showing up to work by the safety organization, but I didn’t have the travel expenses to drive over 200+ miles and 4 hours, including not having a place to stay through the apprenticeship program
I tried to explain the agreement we had but sadly it didn’t work

Company Overview: (STI Group)
I worked 5/10s & 1/8 for 6 days a week, a lot of overtime
I read a lot of Blueprints, did Formats, Layouts & Drilling for W20s & 30s Beams & Columns

A lot of Structural Flux & Stick Welding, Cutting with Metabos, Acetylene Torches, & Arch Gougers
I took over a lot of the Hot Work & Overhead work because most journeyman on my crew lacked experience in those areas, I was more fit for the job
I worked in Overhead Work Areas, Underground Work Areas & Confined Space Work Areas staying 100% Tied Off
I operated Heavy Equipment such as Genie Manlifts, SJ-86T’s, and Scissor Lifts, I used a lot of power tools like Mag Drills & Lasers, Impacts, and Air Compressed Impacts for Overhead Bolt Up
I dragged up because the company wouldn’t re-evaluate me after failing the Iron Workers Test, they told me I’d have to wait 14 days for a reevaluation
After the 2 weeks passed, I asked for the reevaluation test and they told me the company rules changed & I’d have to wait 30 days again
I waited a month and a half but they still refused to give me the test, I may have failed the test but I showed them I could do the work, after not being reevaluated for journeyman pay, I requested for a weld test so I could get welders pay, and they have also refused to give me the test
I was doing a lot of journeyman & welder work for low pay, my experience was being looked over, and my wage wasn’t cutting my hotel & travel expenses
