University of Miami HHMI Lab — Stem Cell Research, In the University of Miami HHMI Lab, a team of fellow students and I researched the growth of stem cells in planarian flatworms. Our research team tested the effect melatonin would have on the rate of regeneration of planaria once they had been amputated. We worked to find the ideal solute for the melatonin along with the concentration of the melatonin solution to then be able to introduce it to the planarian flatworms and document the rate at which they regenerated their tails and heads.
