Isabel is currently a student at MICA pursuing a BFA in Fibers, focusing on textile design through digital weaving and digital fabric printing. She approaches creating her work through a layering process of multiple mediums to create designs. Drawing inspiration from her drawing and painting practice, she explores creating textiles through digital textile printing, digital jacquard weaving, machine knitting and surface dyeing processes.
Multi Media Event: HEATSPELL 2022
Participated in a year long experimental fashion course at MICA, I developed a collection of garments based on my drawing practice that incorporated my digital weavings and digital printed fabrics. For the live event I choreographed an original dance composition and created my own music to orchestrate an ethereal moment in time.
MICA 27th Fashion show EVOLVE 2020
I was selected from a pool of applicants to participate in the Annual Fashion show at MICA. Presented my own collection of garments . My collection was based on a series of illustration's and paintings I created which were then woven, printed and painted onto original garments. I was responsible for my own choreography, styling, photography and lighting during the fashion show.
Isabel Oliva X The New Norm Baltimore 2020
Collaborated with New Norm Baltimore, a group of students specializing in material science at Johns Hopkins University. The New Norm is working on a sustainable fiber/filament made from red solo cups, I used the material to weave fabric on a TC2 jacquard loom. Working together to create sustainable garments.
