Work History

City of Edinburg

Administrative Specialist
08.2021 - Current

Job overview

  • Performs journey-level clerical work in the Planning and Zoning Department.
  • This work involves compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, and maintaining files.
  • I process payments for application fees. When customers would like to apply for variances to our Unified Development Code of Edinburg or if Developers want to submit new subdivisions for our review. Each application requires a set fee. Once payment is made I then scan and upload supporting documents to a particular case file for each applicant.
  • Every month here in Planning and Zoning, our Planners go in front of our board members and present them with cases that require their approval. The board members consist of our Zoning Board of Adjustments, Planning & Zoning Commission and lastly our City council. 10 days prior to the scheduled meetings, every applicant receives a applicant letter, notifying them with details of what to expect at such meetings. And after all concluded meetings every applicant receives an action letter, addressing what the final comments are for their case. Such as, if their case was approved, denied or tabled. I generate these letters and mail them out to the corresponding mailing address provided on each application.
  • Liability falls on the City of Edinburg if applicants are not notified of every public meeting with our board members. At times, applicants need it to go on record that their particular request was heard and or received approval or denial from the board members.
  • Since working here with the City of Edinburg, I have obtained knowledge regarding our Unified Development Code. This code is administered by our Director of Planning and Zoning and utilized by our Planners. The importance of this code reflects all new and upcoming development in Edinburg.
  • My general office duties also include but are not limited to answering and routing phone calls, assisting with customers, preparing, editing and distributing correspondence, reports and documents.
  • As part of my career development I plan on taking the Zoning Inspector Exam this April. With this certification I will be more suited for any job opportunity in the planning related field.
