Has worked at Crumbl Cookies since June of 2022 as a baker, or crew member, and now trainer I work a multitude of positions throughout my shifts, each allowing me to develop a variety of skills
Time Management :
- Baking Schedule : Bakeries such as Crumbl have strict schedules for when specific items need to be baked and ready for customers This requires us employees to manage or time effectively to ensure products are fresh and available at their highest quality when customers expect them
- Multi-Tasking : Bakeries may have multiple orders and tasks at the same time, and different baking projects and orders within a set timeframe requires strong time management skills Baking cookies while working the ovens and simultaneously aiding front of house with getting orders out to customers or balling a dough can be a necessity to ensure that the projected goals for that day are achieved
- Precision and Attention to Detail : Baking requires precise measurements and attention to detail Gauging when the projected levels of cookies are getting low for the front of house, setting out all trays of cookies to thaw before going in the oven, waiting for dough to rise while it is being baked at its specific time, monitoring temperatures, waiting for baked cookies to cool, and then decorating those intricate pastries can be time-consuming Patience is crucial to ensure the final products meet the gourmet quality standards
- Dealing with Difficult Customers : In customer-facing roles at a bakery entail encounters with demanding or irate customers can occur quite frequently Developing patience is essential for maintaining professionalism and resolving issues calmly
- Handling Unexpected Situations : Unexpected challenges can constantly arise, such as equipment malfunctions, ingredient shortages, or large last-minute orders Employees need to adapt quickly and find creative solutions to keep operations running smoothly
- Changing Workloads : Depending on the day of the week, special events, catering, and holiday seasons, workloads in a bakery can vary greatly Learning to adapt to these fluctuations and maintain consistency in product quality is a valuable skill
- Teamwork : Crumbl operates as a team, with employees collaborating to complete orders efficiently Front of house necessitates a constant supply of cookies and requires frequent discussion with those working the ovens to ensure influxes in orders, larger orders, or any change in the cookie levels are accounted for, so communication is crucial to coordinate tasks and ensure everyone is on the same page
- Customer Service : Customer-facing roles requires strong communication skills to interact with customers, take orders, and address inquiries or concerns effectively
- Recipe Modifications : Occasionally, employees may need to adjust recipes or troubleshoot issues with ingredients or equipment Developing problem-solving skills helps ensure that the bakery can meet customer demands and maintain product quality
- Inventory Management : Keeping track of ingredients and supplies is vital in a bakery Organizing ingredients, maintaining inventory levels, and restocking as needed contribute to the overall efficiency of the bakery
- Food Safety : Bakeries must adhere to strict hygiene and food safety standards Employees learn the importance of cleanliness, safe food handling practices, and maintaining a sanitary work environment
Working in a bakery fosters a strong work ethic and diligence that allows for constant production and the building of the crucial skills aforementioned
