I went on a veterinary externship with Ecolife in South Africa where I got to shadow wildlife veterinarians out in the field and assist on procedures.

Volunteered at a spay and neuter clinic at Riverside Veterinary Care and Dental Services.

• Assisted veterinarians in performing routine examinations and treatments on various animal species.
• Performed routine procedures such as nail trims, ear cleanings, and grooming services to promote animal health and comfort.
• Assisted with laboratory work, including sample collection, analysis, and reporting results to veterinarians for interpretation.
• Performed catheterizations, ear flushes, enemas, intravenous feedings and other procedures.
• Positioned animals for diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and scans.
• Provided customer support to clients, answering questions and addressing concerns.
• Was trained as a receptionist and filled this role part time.

Shadowed veterinarians and technicians during their regular work day to get a feel for the profession. Learned basic skills such as holding animals and cleaning surgical instruments.
