After graduating high school in 2016, I was working at taco bell unsure of where I wanted to go in life. It was good work, but was not what I wanted/needed long term. After talking with a coworker of my stepfathers, I applied to join the Union Carpenters Apprenticeship and was accepted into their 5 year paid training program. This program was designed to give apprentices mostly in field training while working full time on the job, and also getting valuable classroom experience. Week long class training was required 4 times a year (160/hrs per year) which provided very important training and certifications ( CPR/First Aid, Scaffold training, forklift certification, etc.). In March of 2023 I graduated said program and have valuable experience hanging drywall, building and pouring concrete forms, basic layout, siding and exterior trim, and many different elements of carpentry. I am currently looking to change careers as I have lost some interest in this field and am looking for a fresh start. Only being 24 years old I am of the mind that I should explore my options now while I'm younger instead of waiting another decade and being forced to stay based on time put in.
