Both my goal and dream is to become a Criminal Investigator(1811) for HSI, under the Department of Homeland Security. I am driven by a solid foundation in my studies that pertain to criminal investigations from Texas State University and hands-on experience at the U.S. Attorney's Office, I excel in articulating case facts to establish probable cause. Known for exceptional organizational skills and a strong work ethic, I efficiently manage high-volume tasks, demonstrating a keen ability to learn quickly and contribute effectively to Federal Prosecutorial Teams.
As a Student Trainee, I assist Legal Assistants and their corresponding Federal Prosecutors, hereinafter AUSAs. I assist them by preparing Grand Jury Subpoenas, Search and Seizure Warrants, Opening and Closings of case, Ingesting Discovery through a database known as USAfx, and organize Trial Preparation material for AUSAs.
I prepare Grand Jury Subpoenas by receiving a Federal Agents, hereinafter Special Agents, Grand Jury Subpoena Request and then combining it with the corresponding case AUSAs Grand Jury Subpoena Form. Next, I send it to a Federal Judge within the Western District of Texas, to be approved and signed.
I prepare Search and Seizure Warrant Packets by first receiving a Special Agents Affidavit and reviewing it to see if there is any indication that it is an Emergency Warrant, if it needs to be Sealed, if the correct charges are proficiently explained, if it adheres to the he particularity requirement, if it needs to be executed at a certain time of the day, and/or if the affidavit shows that there is articulable probable cause that the places and/or items to be searched/seized are contraband, fruits of crime, instrumentalities, and/or mere evidence of the crime. After reviewing and applying changes to the Affidavit, I then combine prepare the whole packet in the following order: 1. San Antonio Magistrate Checklist 2. Motion to Seal 3. Search Warrant Application 4. Attachments A&B from the Affidavit 5. The Affidavit 6. Search and Seizure Warrant 7. Attachments A&B.
I prepare the Openings of cases by combining the corresponding Special Agents Criminal Division Opening sheet with the AUSAs Opening Sheet and filling out corresponding case information including the Identifies of the defendant, the name of the Case Agent, the name of the AUSA, etc.
There have been several ways that I have organized Trial Preparation Material, one of the most memorable is preparing a lot of the evidence that pertains to the 2022 Tractor Trailer Case which was investigated primarily by HSI, under the Department of Homeland Security. This case has been deemed as the largest Human Smuggling Event in U.S. History. The tasks that I was given was revolved around the Electronic Communication between subjects involved in the case. Specifically, I converted Time Stamps within these conversation's from UTC(Coordinated Universal Time) to CST(Central Standard Time). Another notable task that I was given was to prepare the Extradition Packet for one subject(s) pertaining to Tractor Trailer Case. I did so by preparing AUSA affidavits, an Exhibit List, Relevant Legal Provisions, an HSI Agents Affidavit, Transcription Sets, Autopsy Reports, Photos of the Deceased, and Witness Declarations to adhere to my advisor(s) task.
I Ingest Discovery by first receiving discovery from Special Agents and uploading either via a database known as USAfx, a hard drive, and/or discs. I then send unalterable copies to a subjects Defense Attorney.
I also prepare several office duties within the U.S. Attorneys Office, Western District of San Antonio. I assist the office through
clerical duties such as organizing large amounts of paperwork and/or mail by delivering it to the many prosecutors and legal assistants within the office. I go to the courthouse via a Govt. vehicle to file paperwork, as well as retrieve paperwork needed at the office. I use various software's to review and edit documents, and make sure legal assistants have all the necessary supplies to create a physical Criminal Complaint File.
I accepted delivery orders and delivered them to customers within a 30 mile radius.
I also had in-store duties including folding cookie boxes and balling cookie dough.
