· Checked vital signs on monitor; BP, HR, ECG, CVP, Spo2.

· Assisted with insertion of arterial and central line.

· Assisted with endotracheal intubation.

· Provided NG feeding.

· Administered Blood product and TPN.

· Provided Tracheostomy care.

· Provided Foley’s care.

· Extubated patient if all criteria were met.

· Filled in the pre-op checklist and ensured that standard safety measures have been

followed before the patient is transferred to the operating theatre.

· Assisted to Complete all needed investigations such as ECG, Echo, CXR and a blood test, including coagulation.

· General hygiene: advised the patient to have a good shower the day before surgery to

minimize post-op infection.

· Checked payment status and gave directions to patient party to collect necessary

equipment, medicines and blood product as ordered.

· Acted as a witness during consent taking process.

· Explained to patient and patient party if any questions and concerns were raised.

· If necessary, called doctors/surgeons for further explanation.

· Checked all the items before transferring patient to operation theatre.

· Kept Identity bands and hand over to the receiving nurse, who then checks the patient’s

identity and signs the pre-op checklist.

As Scrub Nurse:

Before an operation

· Ensured that the circulating nurse has checked the equipment.

· Ensured that the theater has been cleaned before the trolley is set.

· Prepared the instruments and equipment needed in the operation.

· Used sterile technique for scrubbing, gowning and gloving.

· Received sterile equipment via circulating nurse using sterile technique.

· Cleared away instrument and equipment and De-gown.

· Prepared the patient for recovery room.

· Complete documentation and Hand patient over to recover room.
