As a skilled Lineman (Non Certified) I was in the operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems; operated a variety of specialized related equipment and vehicles but never disregarded safety protocols from the company or OSHA regulations while also taking the time to teach new comers and existing employees the proper way to handle a crew and always focusing on the safety of one another. Meeting always customer needs and satisfaction.

Plans and initiates project. Establishes safety requirements.

• Verifies work to be performed with supervisor.
• Inspects daily and verifies all heavy equipment is properly working prior to use such as digger derick, bucket truck, alley machine, jet vac, excavator, trailers, wire pullers, and boring machine.
• Does a banner/request for material needed for work order or job being done.
• Reviews JSA and tailgates with crew prior to leaving the office.
• Meets with crew at job site to discuss safety requirements.
• Prepares groundman with information such as address, pole number, and all safety apparatus in case of a emergency.
• Communicates with dispatch regarding what kind of job is being done to request One Shot/Recloser Off on that feeder.
• Notifies customers if power will be disrupted and give and estimated time of restoration.
• Ensures that the crew has all safety equipment required to do the job.
• Loads all material and equipment needed for the job. Sets poles and constructs other devices to hold electrical wire.
• Always wears Rubber gloves, bala clava, faceshield, and sleeves cradle to cradle.
• Ensures equipment is grounded so job can be done safely. Checks to see if job can be done with “hot” or “cold”pole.

Places rubber on all exposed wires that may come in contact with new pole.

• Ensures all other utilities have been located before digging hole.
• Calls for spotting prior to digging to avoid damages to other cables or fiber optics.
• Digs pole hole and sets pole to specifications.
• Relocates old wire and material to new pole. Strings new wire and maintains old wire. Installs and maintains transformers and other equipment.
• Blocks station and applies grounds where needed.
• Places rubber on exposed crossings.
• Grounds all pulling equipment.
• Ensures old wire is pulled out and in place. Installs, repairs and maintains underground electrical distribution systems.
• Trenches in wire and sets up transformers and pads.
• Terminates dip poles, transformers, and switching cabinets.
• Trouble-shoots bad underground primary cable using thumper.
• Works with all phases of construction from specifications to completion of construction. Installs, maintains and repairs traffic and outdoor lighting.
• Responds to work orders on street lighting overhead and underground wiring for lighting with correct permits and traffic control signs.
• Repairs and replaces all types of lighting such as mercury vapor, high pressure sodium, etc. Uses fault locating equipment for underground wiring.
• Trims trees where needed.
• Assembles and erects substations. Prepares job site and installs transformer, insulators, circuit breakers, capacitors, circuit switches, disconnect switches, high voltage fuses and voltage regulators.
• Performs skilled work in the constructing, reconstructing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment, including substation, distribution systems, transformers, and power lines; inspects, installs, services, troubleshoots and modifies high voltage electric distribution and related equipment.
• Performs skilled work in placing and removing crossarms, stringing wires, tapping wires, repairing crossarms and wires, placing and replacing insulators and setting transformers.
• Performs live line work as necessary to ensure safety and minimize power outages.
• Inspects, tests, calibrates and adjusts various controls or meters used in the electrical system to measure voltage, current, and resistance.
• Installs and maintains underground or overhead wiring systems as required.
• Provides temporary power connection for contractors.
• Installs and connects wire, meters and other electrical services on customer premises.
• Climbs utility poles using safety belt and climbers.
• Operates a variety of equipment and trucks, and the use of attached equipment such as power diggers, bucket truck, trencher, and derrick truck to construct, maintain and repair the electric distribution system.
• Conducts on-the-job training and directs crew activity in all live line maintenance and construction tasks.
• Maintains safety practices and procedures.
• Keeps inventory, time and material records, as assigned; stocks service vehicles as required.
• Responds to customer complaints.
• Performs other related duties as required. DESIRED (TECOS) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:
  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
  Five years’ experience in construction or electrical maintenance; or
  Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in electrical distribution system maintenance work.
• Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations. Knowledge of how circuits feed and where they can be blocked.
• Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment. Skill in the application of first aid methods including artificial respiration. Skill in the reading and interpretation of electric schematics and one-line diagrams.
• Ability to follow proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of line work; Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; Ability to work under varying weather conditions.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  Valid State Driver's License Class A CDL
  possesses a Class A lineworker’s certification;
  Certified to perform First Aid and CPR;
  Certified in Pole Top Rescue and Bucket rescue.
• TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup, dump truck, manlift, digger derrick, backhoe, chipper, pole climbing equipment, hydraulic press, wire cutters, heat sensors, electrical testing equipment, hot sticks, clamp sticks, generator, chain saw, line tracer, and various hand tools.
• Stops and reports any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injuries or illnesses.
• Demonstrated a high level of initiative and creativity while tackling difficult tasks.
• Be available for emergency after half hour response and participate in on call duty rotation.

As a Apprentice Lineman I am trained to build, maintain, and repair power lines (overhead/underground) by assisting the Journeymen Lineman, operating equipment (bucket trucks, diggers), climbing poles, setting transformers, trimming trees, and learning safety protocols, all while undergoing formal classroom and on-the-job training to become a certified Journeyman Lineman but never disregarding the ground hand work.

• Assisted senior linemen in constructing and maintaining overhead/underground power lines, contributing to fewer outages.
• Heavy Equipment: Operated hydraulic aerial lifts, digger derricks, alley machines, boring machines, jet vac, excavator, and line trucks while adhering to strict safety protocols.
• Construction: Worked with construction crews to route and re-route power lines around new builds either via above-ground lines or below-ground utilities.
• Ground hand: Performed ground-level tasks including digging holes, setting poles, framing crossarms, and pulling wire.
• Stock: Maintained and stocked line trucks with tools and materials, ensuring crew readiness for emergency repairs.
• Climbing: Inspected pole for any obstruction or breaks before climbing wooden poles and worked aloft using hand tools, gaffs, and safety gear for installations and repairs.

As Groundman I assisted the journeyman linemen with building, maintaining, and repairing power lines, involving heavy physical labor like digging holes, setting poles, preparing sites, operating equipment, stocking trucks, managing traffic, and ensuring job site safety by handling tools and materials, cleaning up, and learning the trade for future progression.

• Material Handling: Preparing and organizing tools such as drill, slings, block and tackle, hot hoist, cable cutters, shot gun, cable grips, grounds, blankets, rubber guts, spreaders, extendos, insulinks, cablelocks, tension splice, and hardware on the ground before they are hoisted to the lineman via handlines or "grunt sacks".
• Site Preparation: Setting cones and signs, digging holes for poles, padding ditches, excavating trenches, laying conduit, framing poles before being hoisted and set and clearing brush or obstructions from work zones.
• Equipment Inspection and Operation: Safely inspecting and operating utility vehicles, bucket trucks, digger derricks, alley machines, boring machine, excavators, wire pullers, trailers, jet vac and various equipment related with this trade before and after every shift.
• Safety Support: Acting as a spotter, ensuring strict adherence to OSHA safety standards, and maintaining clear work areas to prevent hazards.
• Technical Assistance: Learning to tie essential lineman knots, assisting with wire splicing, and helping set up grounding equipment.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Many employers require a Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a permit shortly after being hired.
• Physical Demands: Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, standing for long periods, and performing rigorous labor such being on call or troubleshooting in extreme outdoor weather conditions.
• Safety Certifications: Familiarity with OSHA 10, First Aid, AED and CPR.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of electrical concepts, rigging, and manual tool use.
• Personal Protective Equipment: Ensured in checking and testing every rubber glove, sleeves, bala clava, face shield, hard hat, safety glasses,rubber guts, blankets, pins, shot gun, hot hoist, or any insulated tool before and after every work performed.
• Apprenticeship program (TECOS): Is a basic 244 modules and tests that prepare you in becoming a Lineman such rigging, knots, framing, tools, transformer banks, voltages, electrical formulas, conductors, climbing, grounding, pole-top and Bucket rescue , electrical drawing symbols and many more Electrical principals.
• Electronic tools: Handled and inspected electronic tools like voltmeters, Megger (primary locators), Test point (primary voltage tester), F5 (locating the wand for the boring machine), secondary locator, transformer/capacitor tester, and Phasing sequence indicator.
• Computer skills: Assisted lineman with closing and creating work orders, requesting/approving time, understanding feeder/circuit maps, and creating banners for material needed to stock trucks.
• Teamwork: Always working in good positive way while collaborating with others individuals with to achieve the objectives shared as a group in the efficient way with a limited time frame.
