As a skilled Lineman (Non Certified) I was in the operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems; operated a variety of specialized related equipment and vehicles but never disregarded safety protocols from the company or OSHA regulations while also taking the time to teach new comers and existing employees the proper way to handle a crew and always focusing on the safety of one another.   • Verifies work to be performed with supervisor.
  • Inspects daily and verifies all heavy equipment is properly working prior to use such as digger derick, bucket truck, alley machine, jet vac, excavator, trailers, wire pullers, and boring machine.
  • Does a banner/request for material needed for work order or job being done.

  • Always wears Rubber gloves, bala clava, faceshield, and sleeves cradle to cradle.
  • Ensures equipment is grounded so job can be done safely. Checks to see if job can be done with “hot” or “cold”pole.

Places rubber on all exposed wires that may come in contact with new pole.

  • Ensures all other utilities have been located before digging hole.
  • Calls for spotting prior to digging to avoid damages to other cables or fiber optics.
  • Digs pole hole and sets pole to specifications.
  • Relocates old wire and material to new pole. Strings new wire and maintains old wire. Installs and maintains transformers and other equipment.
  • Blocks station and applies grounds where needed.

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in electrical distribution system maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations. Knowledge of how circuits feed and where they can be blocked.
  • Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment. Skill in the application of first aid methods including artificial respiration. Skill in the reading and interpretation of electric schematics and one-line diagrams.

  • Material Handling: Preparing and organizing tools such as drill, slings, block and tackle, hot hoist, cable cutters, shot gun, cable grips, grounds, blankets, rubber guts, spreaders, extendos, insulinks, cablelocks, tension splice, and hardware on the ground before they are hoisted to the lineman via handlines or "grunt sacks".
