Pararescuemen, also known as PJs, are highly trained Air Force Special Operations Medics and Rescue Specialists who specialize in rescuing and recovering downed military personnel in austere conditions. Communicating and coordinating with ground and air transport while rendering medical aid and preforming rescue operations. PJs also conduct and oversee civilian rescues all over the world for natural disasters, accidents, and NASA astronaut recovery. To become a PJ, trainees must endure a grueling 2-3 year pipeline that has a 90% attrition rate.
