Volunteered as a nurse at this sleep away camp for handicapped children.
• Oversaw the preseason set-up and the postseason closing of the Health Center, which included performing an opening/closing inventory of all supplies and equipment and buying supplies/equipment as needed and approved through an alotted budget.
• Administered medication and treatment to a diverse group of handicapped children with varying degrees of disabilities ranging in age from 5 to 18, throughout their stay at camp and to staff when necessary.
• Identified pertinent camper medical needs (special diets, etc.) and ensured that this information was communicated with the appropriate camp staff.
• Provided for proper nursing intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care.
• Administered immediate first aid to injured parties, performed nursing assessments, implemented nursing intervention as guided by nursing judgment;
• Kept records regarding administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs. Followed state standards in maintaining such records;
• Made rounds throughout the camp checking on campers, staff and the health and safety of the camp in general.
• Supervised and coordinated with other nursing staff.
