  • Communicate with Trimedx (Biomed Engineers) concerning repairs of equipment
  • Train all shift supervisors on the functionality and use of the newly implemented assignment metric tool / update and adjust as needed
  • Serve as Relief Respiratory Therapy Shift Supervisor and compile shift assignments when needed
  • Post departmental notifications and distribute individual notifications when needed
  • Perform yearly employee evaluations for direct reports
  • Perform corrective action / coaching and counseling when necessary
  • Collaborate with fellow supervisors and team members to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Educational Duties
  • Conduct all EPIC training sessions for all Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory Therapy students, EKG Techs and RNs receiving EKG training
  • Attend monthly EPIC ClinDoc meetings as required
  • Educate patients and family members on treatments administered, use of equipment, trach care, etc.
  • Assist with educating new RN orientees concerning caring for critical care vent patients and trach patients
  • Serve as clinical preceptor to respiratory therapy students and new employees when needed
  • Coordinate and perform annual departmental Critical Care Competency evaluations
  • Perform all departmental educational sessions for all shifts within the department
  • Create and utilize educational materials based on various learning approaches such as active learning, collaborative learning, clinical simulations, problem-based, and case studies
  • Provide 1:1 educational sessions with new employees, students, and fellow supervisors when needed
  • Observe team members' performance / identify needs for improvement
  • Perform periodic educational review sessions
  • Communicate frequently with fellow team members and shift supervisors concerning educational needs for the department as well as individual team members
  • Quality Improvement Duties
  • Audit charts / monitor documentation / coach staff members on improving and correcting documentation
  • Submit RL Datix reports along with investigate and provide responses to Quality Improvement team
  • Communicate with the Quality Improvement team concerning areas of concern found within RL Datix reports
  • Attend Root Cause Analysis meetings when needed
  • Attend biweekly RT Informatics meetings
  • Attend monthly Intensivists meetings when needed
  • Submit monthly RT Procedures report to Respiratory Therapy Director
  • Patient Care Duties
  • Provide care for patients in all critical care units and basic respiratory therapy when needed
  • Initiate, troubleshoot, and monitor various respiratory devices
  • Administer specialty gases and medications
  • Administer routine respiratory care to patients
  • Obtain, analyze, and interpret ABG samples via arterial sticks and arterial line draws
  • Perform airway care as needed
  • Perform EKG's when needed
  • Reinsert / downsize trach tubes when ordered by provider
  • Assist with bedside and outpatient patient care procedures when needed
  • Communicate effectively with patients and family members to ensure exceptional patient care
  • Inventory and Maintenance of Supplies and Equipment Duties
  • Assist with tracking departmental trach supplies inventory / request trach supply orders when needed
  • Perform basic maintenance on Radiometer blood gas analyzer when needed
  • Communicate with sales reps concerning equipment and supplies
  • Perform monthly calibrations on VERO consoles / monitor and order supplies as needed
  • Assist with storage, delivery, pick up and compliance of oxygen cylinders
