Summary

Dear POM Selection Committee,

I am writing to express my interest in the faculty position for the Practice of Medicine course. I am deeply interested in contributing to the education and professional development of medical students, particularly in areas that bridge clinical reasoning, patient-centered care, and systems-based practice.

While I have not held a formal teaching appointment to date, my current role has required me to consistently engage in teaching, mentorship, and clinical guidance in real-world settings. As a practicing physician and clinical leader, I routinely support learners and colleagues in developing clinical judgment, communication skills, and professional decision-making. This includes guiding trainees and staff through complex patient care scenarios, modeling patient-centered communication, and reinforcing standards of professionalism and accountability.

In addition, my leadership responsibilities across multiple clinical sites have strengthened my ability to translate clinical knowledge into clear, practical frameworks—an approach that aligns closely with the goals of the Practice of Medicine curriculum. I am particularly passionate about helping learners integrate medical knowledge with the humanistic and systems-level aspects of care, including navigating uncertainty, understanding healthcare systems, and developing resilience in clinical practice.

I bring a structured, thoughtful, and reflective approach to my work, along with strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering supportive learning environments. I am also highly receptive to feedback and would welcome faculty development opportunities to further refine my teaching skills and contribute effectively to the course.

I would be honored to participate in the education of our medical students and to support the mission of the Practice of Medicine program. I am confident that my clinical experience, leadership perspective, and commitment to professional development would allow me to be a meaningful and engaged contributor.

Thank you for your consideration.

Warm regards,
Dr. Jacinta Elder-Arrington, MD, MSc
