I worked as a Senior Skipper (Senior Councilor) where I was given a role of higher responsibility. I received leadership training that allowed me to so provide support for my colleges, which, in turn, gave me the opportunity to make the overall camp experience for all campers a better, more fulfilling one. Having this leadership role allowed me to further my hospitality skills and strengthen the connections I made with all people that I served.
I spent the summer in America at a children's activity camp. This amazing experience allowed me to develop life experience and put myself outside of my comfort zone in a new environment with new people from all over the world. I worked as a lifeguard to ensure safety at three waterfronts. I have developed excellent communication skills, team work and the ability to take and give instruction. As a team player I regularly assisted in organising recreational activities, promoting engagement among campers.
I worked in a leisure centre as support staff maintaining safe and clean facilities for all council members. This role required me to be extremely flexible, hospitable and be knowledgeable in multiple different positions around the council facility. I would often work at the reception desk, booking people into gym and swim classes, answering enquires and being a friendly face.
As a certified lifeguard I would frequently be on poolside, ensuring people were enjoying the pool facility's in a safe manner.
With my hospitality and catering experience, I was comfortable working in the connecting snack kiosk where there would be hot drinks, cold food and various sweets and chocolate for sale.
I worked in a high profile members only club. My role consisted of facility checks to ensure smooth day to day operation, lifeguarding, food and beverage preparation and assisting in timely opening and closing the club. This work provided me with the opportunity to work in an environment where consistency and quality service were required and expected at all times. I learned how effective communication and teamwork were essential to bringing the best treatment for members paying a premium.
Following my passion for service and hospitality and with my past experience with events catering, I found work with Marcus Moore Catering. This business catered for any event from large conference dinners to weddings to garden party's. This work was extremely fulfilling for me as it allowed me to further my previously acquired skills at Scrumpy Pig. At this business I got to be a part of a tight kitchen and service team where timeliness and following a systematic routine were the key to satisfied clients. My role also required me to deal with issues, communicate effectively and make decisions that benefited the team in a swift manner to ensure success.
This business specialises in hog roast. We attended Farmers Markets and private functions. My role was customer facing, serving, handling payment, preparing food, cleaning and setting up/breaking down the stall. I often needed to start work at 6.30am. This role helped me to understand the importance of customer service, handling stress and flexibility. Working for Scrumpy Pig was my first exposure to the hospitality and customer service industry and it sparked my love for providing good service. I really got to grow my hospitality skills in the three years I worked for scrumpy pig as it was a growing, private, business and there was often only two staff on at a time so I had to adapt ,in a high stress environment, to every customer to give the best service I possibly could.
